The pitching has been steady, but it's feast or famine with the Giants offense these days. It was feast time today as the Giants broke out the long ball to finally give Barry Zito some run support and the W. Key lines:
Buster Posey- 2 for 2, 2 2B, 3 BB. BA= .325. Buster was on base 5 times in 5 PA's, an on-base machine as opposed to Bengie Molina's out machine. Buster turned that into 3 runs scored today.
Pat Burrell- 1 for 2, HR(18), 2 BB. Burrell was also patient at the plate and it paid off big time in the first inning with Guillen's subsequent HR.
Jose Guillen- 2 for 4, HR(19). BA= .267. OK, can we finally stop the carping at Brian Sabean for acquiring Guillen and at Bochy for playing him? His bat is outweighs his admittedly limited defense. Oh yeah, Ribeyes taste pretty good, don't they? All 6 of Guillen's today came with 2 outs.
Barry Zito- 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.98. See what a little run support can do? Zito now is 1 out shy of 3 consecutive Quality Starts and he's made a total of 19 this season, a brutal August notwithstanding.
The Giants win moved them back into first place by 0.5 games over the Padres who lost 4-1 to Adam Wainwright and the Cardinals. Meanwhile, the Choking Dogs finally gave the Giants some help by coming from behind to tie the Rockies in the 9'th and then win it in extra innings 7-6 leaving the Rockies at 1.5 games behind the Giants a difference that could become huge in gteh coming days.
The Giants get tomorrow off before traveling to Chicago to face the Cubbies. The Giants start off facing a rejuvinated Carlos Zambrano and Ryan Dempster, but the Giants counter with Matt Cain, Jonathan Sanchez and Madison Bumgarner for the series. After that, it's on to Coors Field to face down the very scary Rockies.
12 games to go, baby!! Go Giants!!!
