Tim Lincecum gave up a bases loaded bloop two run single in the 4'th inning, and that was the ballgame. Yovani Gallardo hardly broke a sweat in stifling the Giants offense. The Giants had one chance to win it in the bottom of the 5'th inning as they loaded the bases with 1 out. Unfortunately, Mike Fontenot grounded into a force out scoring just one run and we all know what happens to Giants baserunners after there are two outs. Key lines:
Yovani Gallardo- 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 3.55.
Tim Lincecum- 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 3 K's ERA= 3.60. Timmy lost the game on a bloop hit, but he had loaded the bases. He wasn't happy with being lifted for a PH in the bottom of the 5'th, but it was the right call by Bochy who realized that was likely his only chance to win the game.
With the loss, the Giants also lost their lead in the NL West as the Padres scored 4 runs in the top of the 9'th to beat the Cards 8-4 and Colorado crushed the Dodger behind Troy Tulowitzki's 2 bombs 12-2. The Padres lead the Giants by 0.5 games and the Rockies by just 1. The Rockies are white hot and looking like the most likely team to win the division as of right now. The Giants also lost ground in the Wild Card race as Atlanta beat the Mets behind Tim Hudson 4-2 to take a 2 game lead for the 4'th playoff spot.
It's up to Barry Zito to stop the bleeding tomorrow. He goes against Chris Narveson who also has been pitching much better late in the season. The BrewCrew could very well get revenge for the 4 game sweep the Giants laid on them in Milwaukee earlier in the season.
