Game Wrap 9/27/2024: Cardinals 6 Giants 3

Not a full wrap this morning:

Landon Roupp RHP battled shaky command while throwing over 90 pitches in less than 4 innings and the Cardinals bullpen shut down the Giants lineup over the final 4 innings.  Juan Encarnacion RF hit a mammoth 2-run HR for the Giants offensive highlight but also struck out twice on fastballs up around his shoulders.  Giants will finish the season at no better than .500.

See you all on Friday Oct 4

  1. Been saying it since the off-season signings, since spring training and long before the season even started: Giants have one of the worst rosters in baseball and are a .500 team at best. I get being optimistic but everyone was being unrealistic about our actual personnel talent on the roster and the discount shipping signings Farhan made.

  2. Tough decisions coming for Giants after WS: some players they may want will have to be excised.
40-man roster has 44 on it, a couple will be easy and a few more will leave on their own. Flores has a "low ball" player option and he may take it, otherwise there are maybe 8 that will go without too much pain, but there are more than 40 Rule 5 players the Giants will want to keep.
    It won't be pretty.

  3. Blake Snell declines to make final SF Giants start and that's OK with Melvin and the Giants.
    $32,000,000 for 20 GS, 104 IP, 5-3 record.
$307,692.30¾ per inning for a guy who wasn't ready to play when the season began, hurt himself early on, and declined to finish the season.
"Not playing a playoff team, this game has no meaning,” Snell said.
No meaning for him! The Giants are trying to get to .500 for the season.
Did he offer to rebate salary for the 12 or so starts he didn't make?
Of course not, the league is run by the MLBPA, for the players, not for the teams nor the fans.
If Snell appears for an opponent @ Oracle next year, here's hoping he is soundly booed.
    Or boycotted.
Of course, the Giants cannot make an issue, doing so would brand them as not Player Sensitive, and they have enough problems signing the Big Stars.

  4. I just heard the news that FZ is gone. Replaced by Buster as president of baseball operation. Hope it works out. They're expected to keep Melvin as manager.
