Game Wrap 9/10/2024: Brewers 3 Giants 2

The Giants lineup didn't have enough punch to support a solid pitching performance.  Key Lines:

Mike Yastrzemski RF- 1 for 3, HR(14), BB.  BA= .237.  YtY has 2 HR's in his last 7 games but is batting just .200 over that span.

Landon Roupp RHP- 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 7/2.  ERA= 3.44.  Roupp is stating a strong case to be in the mix for next year's starting rotation.  Since coming off the IL on August 9, he has allowed just 3 R in 20 IP over 9 appearances(ERA= 1.35) with 21 K's and 9 BB's.  This was his first starting assignment of the season but went 4 IP in relief his last appearance.

Giants hitters had just 4 hits and 3 BB's with Matt Chapman 3B hitting a double.  The last 4 batters in the lineup went a combined 0 for 13.

Blake Snell LHP tries to rebound from his last weird 1-inning start tomorrow facing Colin Rea RHP.

  1. What's with "only" 6 strikeouts when the Giants can only get 4 hits?
And perhaps even stranger, Conforto wiffed 4 times in 4 ABs: the "youths" — 5 of them — only struck out once!

    1. Why is Conforto taking up the ABs

  2. Roupp was a dominant starter in the minors leagues. DOMINANT. Don’t forget that. Melvin just fell in love with his curveball during spring training and was like “that’s a major league curve ball, we’ve got to have that guy on the major league roster because he can help us!”. But really Roupp is a starter not a reliever.

  3. Roupp is a perfect swingman for the giants next season

  4. Finally, a fan whisperer got to BoMel: Conforto sits!

  5. Will anyone complain if Fitzgerald, Ramos, Encarnación, McCray, Bailey, and Wisely get AB's and the Giants don't win?
At least Conforto isn't in there getting another Golden Sombrero!
Perhaps some might even think they would rather see Matos than YtY.
Meckler, Schmitt, and Sabol are on the 40-man roster, that would make 10.
Maybe tomorrow, with one of the 20-something pitchers on the mound like Birdsong (22 yo) or Black (24 yo).
Finally Melvin has realized there is no path left to the playoffs: PLAY THE KIDS!
