Game Wrap 9/12/2024: Brewers 3 Giants 0

A couple of extra days rest seemed to be just what Hayden Birdsong needed as he rebounded with 5 shutout innings, but the lineup faceplanted after their 13-run effort last night.  Key Lines:

Jerar Encarnacion DH- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .278.  Jerar is stating his case to be on next season's roster.

LMWJ, Mark Canha and Curt Casali had one hit each with Casali hitting a double.  The top 4 spots in the order went 0 for 15 with a walk

Hayden Birdsong RHP- 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 4.74.  Well, that's what a couple extra days will do for a young pitcher past his previous high innings on a season.  Makes you wonder if it's maybe time for a 6-man rotation.

Giants take on the Padres tomorrow night with TBD scheduled to face Dylan Cease RHP.  I plan to attend this game with a childhood buddy.  No post tomorrow.  See you Sunday night or Monday AM.

    2. The base stealer he walked, did not even try to steal any bases. He was given 2nd, 3rd, and home, due to wild pitches / passed ball(s). I figured as much, since he didn’t take off on the first pitch. Hard to tell what may be wrong with Mr. Doval. He pitched great in his immediately prior appearance.

  2. Didn't help that Fitzgerald left the game after 1 AB last night with "lower back tightness" and will be day-to-day.
After hitting a low this season at the end of August, he has rebounded in September's 10 games (39 PAs): .333/.385/.472/.857, but he hasn't hit an HR since August 14 in 99 PAs.
Ramos may have hit a wall since his last HR August 25. In his last 52 PAs, his slash is .143/.173/.204/.377
Not a lot of bright spots lately. Yesterday ended Chapman's 10 game hitting streak (.342/.375/.658/1.033) but the Giants broke even (5-5).
Since the Giants were 3 over .500 August 10th, 1.5 games out of the Post Season, they been 11-17 falling 8.5 games out.

  3. Would SF want Ha-Seong Kim over Willy Adames?
Kim is a somewhat better fielder than Adames but not hugely. He'll strike out less. And he will make Jung Hoo Lee happy.
Offensively, especially for power, Adames is a couple of WAR points better.
    Career @ Oracle:
    Willy Adames .321/.381/.446/.827
    Ha-Seong Kim .169/.222/.217/.439
    Career OPS+: Adames 109, Kim 99
Adames is a career middle-of-the-order batter, Kim mostly 6-7-8
They are 1 month apart in age

  4. Kuip had a conversation with Bomel and mentioned Bomel had strong opinions on players he'd like to see on 2025 roster, and said Giants not far away from being a playoff contender. Kuip knows the players Bomel is talking about and said he's not blowing smoke. Kuip says he thinks Fitzgerald moves to 2nd base which makes me think they'll go out and get a SS (kim?). I think FZ should listen to Bomel s suggestions on roster . He's the manager and a long time baseball guy. I doubt Chapman signs with the Giants without Bomel. I just hope the Giants have a good fast moving off-season. Last years off season while newsworthy, dragged way too much.

  5. Do you think BoMel would want the Giants to re sign Blake Snell,? I think Gianrs should be talking to him now if Snell is interested. In signing now

  7. Intended to watch the game Saturday night, but after an unearned run on a mishandled throw from the outfield, then seeing a DP and Conforto striking out, seemed there were better things to do.
Canha and Conforto in the l/u. Who cares.
