Game Wrap 8/19/2022: Rockies 7 Giants 4

Joc Pederson LF's bat came to life with 2 hits including his first HR since June 25, but that was not enough to overcome the 3 blasts Alex Wood LHP gave up as the Rockies built up a 7-0 lead the Giants were not able to overcome with late inning rallies.

Alex Cobb RHP tries to even the series tomorrow evening facing Ryan Feltner RHP who comes in with an ERA of 6.39 in 50 IP.

  2. Remember Seiya Suzuki? The guy most everyone wanted FZ to sign but the Cubs shelled out $85M for 5 years (plus posting for $99.625M total)?
He might crack a 2.0 WAR this year (fWAR more likely than bWAR and defensively a negative) and future projections aren't too rosy for next year's 28/29 yo.
Then there's Kris Bryant who went to Colorado: signed thru 2028, 7 yrs/$182M. After missing nearly 2 months (May and June), he's over .300 with 5 HR's for 181 PAs, might not be great for a guy who will be 31 yo in January.
True, they might have been better than not signing anyone but Pederson, but the Giants saved nearly $300,000,000.

    1. Garth Brooks sang a song about this....."Sometimes God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers." LOL!

    2. Compared to Suzuki, Bryant and even Castellanos, Joc Pederson looks pretty good, even now.

    3. OTOH, Kevin Gausman is having a great season with the BJ's. Probably a wash between him and Rodon with a much shorter commitment to Rodon. That's a two-edged sword because now Rodon is likely one and done. What if they had signed both Gausman and Rodon? Probably not much different outcome unless they also bolstered the bullpen. Then again, the bullpen might not have gotten worn out. It's a tough business!

    4. Gausman: 5 yrs/$110M. Is the 9th digit a red flag?
Other than flirting with Harper, have the FZ-Giants offered anyone $100,000,000+?
      Or 90M?
