Brandon Crawford SS hit a 2-out 2-run walk-off HR off Ian Kennedy RHP, a pitcher he had previously faced 41 times, to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and give the Giants their 5'th consecutive win.
Thairo Estrada 2B made it possible with a 2-out triple off the RF wall to set up Crawford's clutch AB. Prior to Crawford's HR, the Giants 4 doubles and went 0 for 8 with RISP.
Jakob Junis RHP- 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 7 K's, GO/AO= 10/3. ERA= 3.53. Junis is the other guy who made it possible with 7 sparkling innings of work. For a long time, though, it looked like the HR ball to Christian Walker 1B in the 4'th inning would be the game winner. BTW, Walker is hitting just .220 but that was his 29'th HR of the season.
And lets not forget Alex Young LHP(ERA= 1.29) and John Brebbia RHP(ERA= 2.84) who pitched shutout innings to keep the Giants in it until the bottom of the 9'th. Young, the former D'Back, has now appeared in 6 games as a Giant and has allowed just 1 run in 6.2 IP. He could be a keeper for next season.

The win gained the Giants another full game on the Padres for the last Wild Card playoff spot. They now trail by 4.5 games.

Carlos Rodon LHP tries to extend the winning streak tomorrow evening facing Zach Davies RHP
Frustrating game to watch. I left and luckily came back for the ninth. Woohoo! What was Dback manager, Torey Lovullo, so upset about after Thairo Estrada's triple?
ReplyDeleteLovullo was upset about a pitch that the ump almost called strike 3 to Estrada on but was actually at least 3 inches away, so the ump, who had been giving Kennedy a huge zone all inning, had it right.
DeleteMan after Crawford was way behind that first 93 mph FB, I thought "his bat speed has really fallen off". Next pitch - HR. Love you Crawford lol
