This game returned to many of the negative themes of the season: An early lead, failure to add on runs, a rally-killing baserunning mistake, a bullpen failure in the 8'th ininng. This time, there was no walk-off magic to save the evening.
Carlos Rodon LHP- 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 11 K's. ERA= 2.89. Starting pitching has not been the Giants problem this season and tonight was no exception. A dominating 6 innings from Rodon. As Pavs tweeted, "he's going to be a very rich man!"
The Giants two runs came on solo HR's by Lamonte Wade Jr. RF(8) and J. D. Davis 3B(8). Davis also made some nice plays on defense and is staking his claim to be the starting 3B next year.
Kap let the shaft out in the 7'th inning. After Austin Wynns C led off the inning with a single off Tyler Holton LHP, he sent Thairo Estrada out to PH for Lamonte Wade Jr. Estrada struck out. He then sent Joey Bart PH/C out to PH for Joc Pederson LF. Bart reached on a walk. Kap then sent YtY out to pinch-run for Wynns at 2B. He got picked off. Rally over.
The two runs Dominic Leone RHP gave up in the 8'th inning may have partly been caused by a long delay after he threw the first pitch of the inning for a strike when a fan decided it was a good time to get arrested and fined. That's what Kruk and Kuip warned us about when it was going down.

Churn Watch:
Luis Gonzalez OF was optioned to AAA Sacramento before the game and Zack Littell RHP was activated off the 15 day IL. Not a popular move with fans but Gonzalez has been scuffling.
The Giants also claimed Andrew Vasquez LHP off waivers from the Phillies. They DFA'd Steele Walker OF to make room on the 40-man roster. Nice knowing ya, Steele!

Logan Webb RHP tries to secure the series win tomorrow afternoon facing Zac Gallen RHP.
For any number of games this year the Giants lineup went something like Saturday, July 16th against Milwaukee with 41,279 fans at Oracle:
ReplyDeleteSlater CF
Flores DH
Ruf 1B
Longoria 3B
Mercedes LF
Estrada SS
Villar 2B
Gonzalez RF
Bart C
The pitchers were Cobb (7 1/3 innings), Brebbia (W), and Leone (S).
YtY did PH in the 8th with 2 outs, bases loaded, score tied 1-1, and, before striking out, coaxed a balk out of Jandel Gustave that scored the ultimate winning run.
Everyone went home happy.
Except the diehards that wanted to see maybe one old, familiar Giant face, like maybe Crawford or Belt or, well, there are no other old, familiar faces, except perhaps Slater in this day of the Churn, waiver signings, and roster masterbations.
In another year they will all be gone, every one, gone to ashes.
It will be the new era.
And 40,000+ will pay big bucks to see the new Giants heroes.
Hopefully.
