Game Wrap 6/25/2014: Giants 4 Padres 0

The Giants needed a stopper, and oh boy!  Did Big Time Timmy Jim ever show up and take responsibility?  In addition to pitching the second no-hitter of his career, Timmy had 2 hits, reached base twice and scored 2 of the Giants 4 runs.  Key Lines:

Buster Posey- 4 for 4, 2B.  BA= .291.  Buster is hot and his BA has climbed from somewhere around .250 to nearly .300.

Pablo Sandoval- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .289.  Sandoval stays hot.

Brandon Crawford- 1 for 3, 3B, BB.  BA= .260.  The triple was Crawford's 8'th of the season.

Tim Lincecum- 2 for 3, BB.  BA= .120.  Timmy decided he was not going to get Cained even if he had to deliver the runs himself.

Tim Lincecum- 9 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K.  ERA= 4.41.  Timmy's second no-no was much cleaner than his first.  He used just 113 pitches in this one as opposed to 148 in the first one in SD.  His ERA dropped from 4.90 to 4.41.  I've thought Timmy might be on the verge of putting it all together in his last few starts.  His FB velocity has been a bit better and much more consistent.

So Timmy has 6 QS in his last 9 starts.   In 2 additional starts, he allowed 0 runs in 5 IP, and 4 runs in 6 IP, so those were near-QS, one missing due to falling an inning short and the other allowing 1 run too many.  His ERA over his last 9 starts, including the disastrous 8 runs in 4.2 innings 6/3 in Cincinnati, is 3.70.

The Win enabled the Giants to stay 3 game ahead of the Dodgers in the NL West as the Bad Guys edged the KC  Royals 5-4.

Tomorrow, the Giants start a 4 game series against the Cincinnati Reds with Ryan Vogelsong taking the mound to face Mike Leake.

  1. Wow, what a wonderful game. I got home from the office to watch the last 6 outs. What a great kid Timmy is.
To make yesterday even better, Fedex delivered my tickets for the Giants inter league series in Kansas in August. My seat are right behind the Giants dugout , 10 rows behind. I will have to make sure my buddy and I have our game gear and gloves, and hopefully lets Kruk and Kuip know about the Gamer Guys from Winnipeg Canada. We are also if my sources are correct staying at the same hotel as the team.
So yesterday made this 63 year old goof feel like a kid again. Love them Giants. Warts and all.

  2. Timmy in total control yesterday. Honestly, I would have been more shocked to see him give up a hit in the later innings. That's how easy he was making it look. Baggs report said he threw almost entirely sliders and curves, and tossed less than 40% fastballs. Timmy, my friends, is learning... and throwing no-hitters in the meantime!

I have to admit, it's really hard to have any expectations for this guy anymore. Every start is a clean slate. Whether he blows up or blows the other team up, he'll always be a fun guy to watch. For as much crap as the guy takes (most of it deserved!), it's amazing just how good he still is. Who throws two no-hitters in less than a year?! Not some washed up slouch, I'll tell you that. What a game Timmy. And what a career.

  3. This may sound a bit greedy, in light of Timmy's second no hitter, but where do we improve, as we try to fend off LA, now 3 games back, instead of 9 plus games back a short while ago - David Price? Replacing who? Cain? Vogelsong? A second baseman? A closer? More relievers? A centerfielder?

  4. Timmah!!! Go Dawgs! I agree with Cove - expectations out the window. Just enjoy the ride, baby! Go Gigantes!

  5. Our boy Duvall gettin the nod tonight! Rootin hard!

  6. Buster hugs better. Just kidding. Not a lot being said from the Hector haters now. So happy for the kid.

Also loved that this was such a clean game for Timmy. Hard to be negative about any no hitter, but it's nice to see him actually have control at the same time, and get a do-over. It was like watching the freaky love child of Tim Hudson and Barry Zito. It reminded me why people used to refer to Timmy as the team's leader one upon a time.

  7. That was a La-z-Boy no hitter. Just sit back, relax and watch it happen.

Timmy made it so easy. No fuss, little drama, just put 'em down.

Shows how easy pitching can be. Right?!

Loved Timmy's hitting line. I think he was out there running around having fun.

    Good Times for all.
