Down on the Farm: 6/3/2014

AAA  Sacramento River Cats defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 7-5:

Mark Minicozzi(LF-1B)- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(3).  BA= .415.
Adam Duvall(DH)- 2 for 3, HR(17), BB.  BA= .298.
Chris Dominguez(RF)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .286.

Duvall DH'd here.  I don't know if they are on a DH rotation in Fresno or if he's rehabbing an injury.   I think the bat plays at the MLB level.  The problem for him is he's limited to 3B and 1B, both of which the Giants have covered. He's nice insurance if Pablo has an injury, though.

AA  Trenton Thunder rolled over the Richmond Flying Squirrels 8-3:

Myles Schroder(3B)- 3 for 3, 2 2B.  BA= .260.
Hunter Strickland, Derek Law- 1 scoreless IP each.

Adalberto Mejia got blown out early again.

High A  San Jose Giants beat the High Desert Mavericks 5-2:

Chuckie Jones(RF)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .240.
Chris Stratton(RHP)- 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 8 K's, GO/AO= 8/2.  ERA= 4.80.
Steven Okert(LHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(17).  ERA= 1.17.

Chuckie is hitting .342 with a .605 SLG% over his last 10 games.  Stratton may be starting to gain some traction.  He has thrown QS's in 3 of his last 4 starts.  In those 3 starts, he has a composite line of 20 IP, 5 ER, 6 BB, 20 K's all while maintaining a GO/AO of almost 2.

Low A  Rome Braves edged the Augusta Greenjackets 4-3:

Ryder Jones(3B)- 2 for 4.  BA= .270.
Jeremy Sy(DH)- 3 for 4, 2 2B.  BA= .248.
Luis Ysla(LHP)- 5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 2.49.

Ryder Jones his hitting .316 with a SLG% of .579 over his last 9 games.

DSL  Mets1 topped the Giants 5-3:

Robinson Medrano(RF, 18 yo)- 2 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .231.
Prebito Reyes(LHP, 18 yo)- 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 1.80.

Medrano is a holdover from last year's DSL team.  He's still just 18 yo and love his size at 6'3", 180 lbs.  Intriguing start for newcomer Reyes.  I had not heard of him before.  Like his size at 6'3", 175 lbs too.

  1. Hey Doc. Who are the recent bonus babies that we should be paying attention to in the DSL (or higher level if they've graduated)?

    Thanks

    1. Mikey Edie and Kelvin Beltre are the two DSL players who I know got mid-6 figure bonuses last July. Keep an eye on them.

    1. EL scores do seem higher this year.

Salem-Keiser and Arizona Rookie League both start about a week after the draft.

  3. Prebito, Prebito, who art thou Prebito? You see lefty, 6'3 and some K's and no walks and you start getting curious right quick!

  4. Doc / fellow posters > who has the higher ceiling Arroyo or Ryder Jones? I say Jones.

    1. I say it's way too early to tell. Arroyo being on the DL has allowed Jones to take the lead in making adjustments.

      Not that it's a foot race... ;)

    1. Probably too early to tell. Arroyo's ceiling took a hit when he was already moved off SS. Jones playing SS almost exclusively early in the season seemed to boost his stock, but now he's back to 3B. Flip a coin.

  6. Could they both have been moved off of SS because Crawford is pretty young and we now have Duffy (who seems to be raking in a hard hitters' league)? Seems like the greater urgency is 3b and 2b.

    1. Nothing going on with Ryder Jones or Christian Arroyo has anything to do with Crawford or anything else at the MLB level.

  7. I think down the road Arroyo and Jones are going to end up being nice pieces. Jones defense is bothersome right now those 19 errors just stick out to me.
