Game Wrap 6/12/2014: Giants 7 Nationals 1

Tim Hudson held the Nationals at bay for the first 6 innings, then the Giants hitters came to life and broke the game open to stave off a 4 game series sweep.  Key Lines:

Hunter Pence- 3 for 3, 2 2B.  BA= .294.  Pence had not seemed quite himself since taking a Zack Wheeler FB in the ribs on Sunday, so good to see him put together a strong game here.

Pablo Sandoval- 1 for 3, SF.  BA= .257.  Pablo had been under the weather for the first 3 games of the series, yet ended up going 5 for 10 in the 4 games.

Michael Morse- 3 for 4.  BA= .287.  Morse just keeps on hitting.

Tyler Colvin- 2 for 3, 3B, BB.  BA= .254. Colvin had been in a pretty deep slump so this line is welcome sight from him.  Giants need his power bat off the bench.

Brandon Crawford- 2 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .260.  Crawford is red hot, hitting .394 over his last 10 games.  His fWAR was up to 1.4 prior to putting up this line.  He remains in positive territory defensively.

Hector Sanchez- 1 for 1.  BA= .224.  The 1 hit was a 2 run single.  He does seem to have a knack.

Tim Hudson- 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 1.81.  Nice bounceback from a subpar prior start, and at an opportune time!

Sergio Romo- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 3.00.  Not a Save situation, but very encouraging to see the 3 K's.

With the Win, the NL West leading Giants regained a game on the Dodgers to 8.5 as the Despicable ones lost to the Reds 4-1 as Alfredo Simon outpitched Zach Greinke.  The Rockies beat ATL 10-2 to remain 11.5 games out.  The Padres lost to fall into a last place tie with the D'Backs at 14.5 games out, pending the outcome of the D'Backs game as they trail the 'Stros 4-3 in the 7'th inning.

The Rockies now come to town for a weekend series with Tim Lincecum facing Jorge De La Rosa in Game 1 tomorrow night.

    1. Happy bday Bacci! They needed to win that game.. Been wondering the same thing about Posey and Pagan playing hurt. Posey is having a fairly average year with the bat , which concerns me. It speaks well about the depth of the roster that they continued winning despite key injuries to Belt and Casilla...

  2. Is that the same Alfredo Simon we traded to the Phillies for Ricky Ledee?

    1. The trade was Ricky Ledee and Alfredo Simon for Felix Rodriquez. Giants later dropped him from the organization.
Orioles picked him up, he was awful for them. For the Reds he has been a value for 3 years now.

Thank god I have full access at the office,so I dont miss my regular beat. Nice game had by all yesterday. Huddy and Morse continue to make Sabes etal looked great. ( IMHO they are anyway).
Need to take 2 of 3 this weekend. Go Timmy.
Ordered a as my Senior Tech here at the office said the Ferrari of systems.
Apparently the system I ordered ( i know nothing right Schultzie nothing) has a dual video stream off the internet which makes he said like I am right there. He promised me no more frozen video streaming.OMG I am looking forward to this.
