  3. Arnold, then Delgado edging out Edlefsen.

Wow, Arnold really dominated while young for the league, which did it for me.

I was going to go with Edlefson, then realized Delgado did relatively well considering his relative youth in the league, particularly walks and walks per strikeout. Plus Edlefson didn't do that well in 2011 in AAA.

  4. It's a classic case of ceiling vs proximity to the majors. I tend to lean toward the ceiling side myself but I'm open to hear out the opinions of others.

  5. I go ceiling but the farther away from the top ten I think a little proximity creeping in is good.

Trade Billy does it again, Gio G to the Nats for A.J. Cole, Brad Peacock, Derek Norris, and Tom Milone. That is quite a haul. Sickels grades them out at B+, B, B and B-, ranking them 3, 5, 6 and 9 in the Nats system.

The writing is on the wall - Boras will move in for the kill, here comes a 8/175 contract for Fielder from the Nats.

  6. My brother-in-law is here in 2 hours for the holidays. Oh boy, he's going to love the latest from his Trader Billy. We used to have spirited discussions, now he just bags on the A's. He has finally seen the light about Beane's completely overrated antics.

  7. That's not a bad haul for Trader Billy. Now he just needs to avoid trading the best ones away again a la CarGone.

  8. Ok, now its getting weird. Boof Bonser getting talked to according to Schulman. No deal yet, coming back from Tommy John and won't pitch til the summer.

  9. Angel Villalona. Seriously, even if the guy hasn't picked up a bat or a firearm in 2 years he is still loaded with talent. Put him on the list Doc!!

  10. Boof isn't too bad as a reclamation project. What he did for the Twins is #5 starter worthy. Maybe by now he has matured enough to harness his abilities/talent and be even better. Worth a minor league deal signing.

He's probably hoping to do what Vogelsong did, though it is funny that we got Burres back too. Let's see, who else is out there, Misch? The guy we traded to Indians for that firstbaseman (Garko?)? Too bad the Angels got to Williams first, he could have been a late season revelation for us when we needed a 5th starter. Ainsworth looking to come back like Salomon Torres?

  11. A catcher with an almost guaranteed career as a back-up in the MLB...

A pitcher who is ready to graduate now, and will probably have a decent career as a 7th or 8th inning guy...

A freshly drafted arm who blew away scouts in his first 6 weeks or so of pro-ball...

An 8th round pick who plays SS...

And these guys are not ALL automatic locks? I am interested to see who you have on the list that bumps these guys so far down...

Anyway, I guess I would go with Monell and Arnold.

  12. Cal Snow - Giants farm is on the rise, baby!

OGC - Scott Barnes is still pitching for CLE and might make some noise this coming year. He has to be on the 40 man soon I think, he's at their AAA.

Pat Misch is a Phillie now. I'm waiting for them to get Freddy Lew to go along with John Bowker and Kevin Frandsen. Yup, they traded for Bowker last year, brought back Frandsen after his 50 game suspension. Amaro Jr loves the Gints castoffs.

  13. Villalona is definitely in.

Yeah, you know, the Giants system may not have the blow away talent at the top like a Posey or Bumgarner, but man, it runs real deep with guys who have a good chance of having a meaningful MLB career.

I'll sit on the list awhile longer and see if maybe there is a place for all 4 of these guys but it's real tough this year. That's a good thing!

  15. Will comment on the Beltran signing in a post as well as the blizzard of F-bomb laced spasm of hatred for Giants management engulfing the internet.

  16. Hey Bacci,

Does the word "buzzkill" look at all familiar to you?

  17. The Cards may have got another bargain like Berkman. They also have Furcal, a guy I doubt plays 80 games. It'll play out and we'll see what's what. I'm not going to lie, I love his bat, but the injury risk, defense slipping away and declining baserunning makes for a good walkaway. Still, 2/26MM is pretty light. But just because the Cards have a potential bargain doesn't mean the Giants would have received that deal. If Beltran doesn't come back for the hot streak nobody's crying in their cha cha bowls. The only thing that bothers me is the rage over Wheeler. That is done, we took a big swing, and we missed. If we powered through to the postseason everybody loves the trade. Can't go back now. How much he had to do with the whole thing, that's another story. I've always liked Beltran, he's an aloof guy who can hit the ball well. This definitely turns up the heat on the Giants brass, and I hope it gets the Matt Cain extension done quick.

  18. Monell and Arnold.

Tough one for sure. I like Delgado.

Not so much a fan of Edlefsen though.
