Game Wrap 8/12/2024: Braves 1 Giants 0(10 innings)

Blake Snell and Chris Sale hooked up in one of the better pitching duels you will ever see.  So much so that if weren't for something called the Wild Card, the final score would be almost irrelevant.  Key Lines:

Blake Snell LHP- 6.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 11 K's.  ERA= 3.91.  Snell took a no-hitter into the 7'th inning but wasn't able to hold his pitch count down.  He appeared to fatigue a bit in the 7'th but still only gave up one semi-hard hit ball in the game.  His stuff was once again sensational with a high-90's FB and an unhittable curveball.

Chris Sale LHP- 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 12 K's.  ERA= 2.61.  I am not sure how anyone could have better stuff than Snell had but Sale might have. The slider in particular was ridiculous diving below the Giants bats.  I will say the home plate ump had a generous strike zone for both pitchers.

I read an X post that said the 23 combined K's set an Oracle Park record.  It was the first time since 2010 that two pitchers had double digit K's in a game at Oracle when Tim Lincecum and Cole Hamels combined for 21.

The Loss dropped the Giants to 2.5 games behind the Braves in the Wild Card race.

Kyle Harrison LHP tries to even the series tomorrow evening facing Charlie Morton RHP.

  1. Yeah, I'm calling that one of the best pitching duels I've ever seen, and I've been watching a long time. The only time Giants hitters had a chance was in the 1st, but they blew that one.

    1. I texted my friend in the second inning that I didn't like the looks of Sale's stuff. The downward and lateral bite on his slider was insane and he as busting a mid-90's FB in above the hands of RH batters.

  2. schmitt's roster spot is likely in jeopardy going into the offseason. he's a good candidate to play baseball in japan next season. i'd like to give luciano some reps at second until thairo is back and swap schmitt for sabol and carry three catchers even though sabol would be used in the late innings more than anything else.

  3. I feel for Luciano. Get called up to be the DH and then basically didn't play for 10 days and then get put in against Sale.

    2. He better be running hard out of the box or he will find his butt on a bus back to Sacramento. No excuse for not hustling.

  4. Dodgers DFA'd 28 yo Amed Rosario – 2024 OPS+ 113, must be tempting FZ without a better 2B...

    1. Interesting, he would be better at 2B than the players SF is running out there. He hits LHP +, and is better than Wisely against RHP.
It's a slap in the face to the youths but Rosario is just 28.

  5. Whoa, KNBR beet up on hitting away in the bottom of the 10th with 3 guys who were collectively 1 for their last combined 57 at bats.
Move him to 3rd with a B-U-N-T, and have a chance of scoring on a mistake
