Down on the Farm: 7/31/2024

AAA:  Sacramento River Cats downed the Reno Aces 9-2:

Grant McCray CF- 3 for 5, 2 2B.  BA= .267.
Trenton Brooks DH- 1 for 4, HR(5), BB.  BA= .309.
Jerar Encarnacion 1B- 2 for 5, HR(10).  BA= .352.
Christian Koss SS- 2 for 3, HR(3), BB.  BA= .288.
Carson Seymour RHP- 6 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 4.53.
Evan Gates RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 3.98.

I would think Grant McCray needs to be added to the 40-man roster before the Winter Meetings.

AA:  Altoona Curve outscored the Richmond Flying Squirrels 9-7:

Wade Meckler DH- 1 for 4, BB.  BA= .324.
Turner Hill RF- 3 for 5.  BA= .329.
Diego Velasquez SS- 2 for 4, 2B, HBP.  BA= .286.
Nick Sinacola RHP- 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 3.22.

A+:  Eugene Emeralds blew away the Everett Aquasox 16-9:

Scott Bandura CF- 3 for 6, 2B, HR(4).  BA= .200.
Sabin Ceballos 3B- 4 for 5, 2 2B, HR(1), BB.  BA= .800.
Bryce Eldridge 1B- 2 for 5, 2B, HR(2), BB.  BA= .278.
Charlie Szykowny DH- 2 for 5, 2B, BB. BA= .269.
Quinn McDaniel 2B- 1 for 2, HBP, 2 SB(29).  BA= .244.
Luke Shliger C- 2 for 5, HR(1), BB.  BA= .400.
Vaun Brown LF- 2 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .150.
Thomas Gavello 2B/SS- 2 for 4, SF.  BA= .197.
Hunter Dula RHP- 2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 2.28.

Well, hello there, Sabin Ceballos!  A smashing Giants debut for the former Oregon Duck who came in the Jorge Soler dum......er trade.  Best part is he is still just 21 yo and has 2 years of development before he becomes Rule 5 draft eligible.  Luke Shliger's HR was a grand slam.  A game for several players to pad their stat lines but pad them they did.

A:  Rancho Cucamonga Quakes edged out the San Jose Giants 4-3:

Jean Carlos Sio 2B-  2 for 3, BB, SB(11).  BA= .244.
Cesar Quintas CF- 2 for 4.  BA= .227.
Guillermo Williamson 1B- 1 for 4, HR(7).  BA= .218.

  1. Can 26-yo Jerar Encarnación bring thunder to SF?

    3. Yes, to answer both your questions! He is huge! I read that Jerar will at least be with the team, tomorrow, in Cincinnati! 6’ 5” at 250 pounds!

    5. I take back my last comment. They actually did select and call up Encarnacion just this morning.

Let's hope Melvin lets him play...

  2. After a very successful stint @ Richmond, 26-yo SS prospect Christian Koss is picking it up in Sacramento. Purchased from Boston in the Churn, is he a sleeper?

  3. McCray could have been candidate to join 40 now taking Conforto MLB roster spot if a trade happened. While his '22 was a revelation, his '23 & '24 have been let's say vastly better than Brown's (including constant health) and that would give team the true CF it claimed to covet.

  5. A lot of us have been talking about bringing Encarnacion up and, according to BAGGERLY, they will do just that on Friday...Him and his power streak in SAC is worth the try...Guess that means VILLAR might be done???

  7. Think there might be just a little irrational exuberance for Jerar Encarnacion here? He has at least a grade 70 name, though.

  8. Nonsense! He’s plainly the next Cepeda!
