Platoon baseball comes to San Francisco in full force! After pummeling two LHP's with a RH heavy lineup in the first two games of the series, the Giants Tyler Austin, Austin Slater, and Buster Posey with left-handed batters and pummeled RHP Cal Quantrill to sweep the three game series. Key Lines:
Brandon Belt 1B- 3 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .242. Belt fans will be happy to note that he is playing on both platoons. He has also been moved to the top of the lineup where he can concentrate on what he does best which is get on base. He's hitting .393 with a .500 OBP over his last 7 games.
Austin Slater PH/RF- 1 for 2, BB. BA= .500. Boch was quick to PH Slater for YTY when Quantrill was lifted for a LHP. Slater delivered with a walk. He later got a hit against a RHP for good measure.
Evan Longoria 3B- 1 for 4, HR(11), BB. BA= .238. Longo stayed in against the RHP and hit his 4'th longball in 3 games. He's gone 7 for 13 in that span.
Alex Dickerson LF- 1 for 4, HR(3). BA= .281. Dickerson replaced Tyler Austin in LF and backed up Longo's Longball with a Dickerson Dinger to give the Giants a short-lived 3-2 lead in the 3'rd inning.
Donovan Solano SS- 1 for 4, 2B. BA= .308. I am sure Brandon Crawford will generally play against RHP's, but he's nursing a sore hammy so Solano got another start and responded with an RBI double in the Giants 4-run 6'th inning.
Pablo Sandoval PH- 1 for 1, 2B. BA= .287. Pabs got lucky when Wil Myers lost his high fly in the lights in CF and it dropped for an RBI double it keep the 6'th inning rally going. I didn't see it, but Myers apparently lost another one in the lights earlier. He may still be out there looking for Pablo's flyball!
Shaun Anderson RHP- 4 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 4.23. Anderson was hittable in this game but the lineup, bullpen and Wil Myers picked him up.
Bullpen- 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K's. Tony Watson gave up a run in the 8'th, but Will Smith recorded his 22'nd Save out of 22 Save Ops. Trevor Gott, Reyes Moronta and Sam Dyson got the other innings.

The Win was the Giants 4'th in a row and gave them a sweep in a park that has been tough on them. They have won 6 of 10 games and cut their deficit in the Wild Card race to 5.5 games. California Dreaming!

As Kruk and Kuip said, the Giants probably don't want a day off right now, but they get to celebrate the 4'th of July with their families before starting a 3 game weekend home series against the Cardinals before the All-Star Break. Drew Pomeranz will take the mound Friday night.

Tyler Beede was optioned to Sacramento in a temporary move to take advantage of the day off and the All-Star break. Ray Black was recalled for an extra bullpen arm. We found out what happened to Steven Duggar when he came off the DL. He was optioned to Sacramento.

I saw Johnny Cueto at the Talking Stick in AZ rehabbing his arm on a slot machine last night. That dude has some big shoulders and looks like he has been keeping in shape. I wonder if the Giants continue to win and stay close and Cueto comes back at the end of the year could California Dreamin become California Reality? Could Farhan pull a complete 180 and instead of trading MadBum could he actually make a few moves to acquire a piece or two?!?!
ReplyDeleteManagement is sending strong message to The Core. Start hitting or you will sit. Solano play 2B or SS as Panik or Craw sit. Posey, Crawford, Panik have never had so much bench time.
