The Giants normally reliable bullpen gave up 4 runs over the final two innings and ultimately a walk-off loss to the Brewers in Milwaukee. Key Lines:
Austin Slater PH/RF- 2 for 2, 2B. BA= .450. Slater smoked a double over the SS to L-CF on the first pitch he saw as a PH in the 7'th. That drove in a run. He later singled to RF and scored in the 2-run 9'th. Q: How do you keep a hot hitter hot and what makes them all eventually cool off? Do they drift into bad habits? Opposition scouting reports catch up with them? It has to be more than the random ups and downs of BABIP.
Madison Bumgarner LHP- 5 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 3.86. Bummy had to fight through a lot of traffic on the basepaths and threw 103 pitches in 5 innings, but kept the Giants in the game on a day when the bats were scuffling. He did not show any ill effects from the shot he took off his elbow in his last start.
That's pretty much the summary. Sam Dyson and Reyes Moronta just didn't have it out of the bullpen and gave up a 3-spot and walk-off hit respectively in the 8'th and 9'th innings.

Key error by Panik. Marty Lurie tweeted that Panik is underperforming at plate and now in the field. Let's see Slater start some games at 2B and def. SLater > Yaz in the OF.
ReplyDeleteOn a day when your starting 8 are collectively 3-26 you need help from the bench and the Giants got it (Slater, Vogt, and Solano were 4-5) and from the mound (other than Dyson's blowup, all the runs were unearned with the MI golden glovers making crucial errors on ground balls).
ReplyDeleteIt was winnable but wasn't to be and that's baseball, right?
Seems like Chacin used to own the Giants (9-7, .203/.280/.350 against) but he's not the same guy this year. It will be interesting to see how Beede's high hard ones play in Milwaukee!
Thnking from a trade chip stand point...Watson has beem scuffling (although escaping real damage) and Dyson finally had a bad outing..Relievers have their ups and downs and I just hope that DYson and Watson (and Smith for that matter) dont have a two week funk before the trade deadline..eed them to win and/or keep their trade level as high as possible...
