AAA Sacramento River Cats outscored the Tacoma Rainiers 6-5:
Abiatal Avelino SS- 1 for 3, HR(10), 2 BB. BA= .288.
Chris Shaw 1B- 1 for 3, HR(12), HBP. BA= .299.
Williams Jerez LHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 4.79.
Fernando Abad LHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 3.22.
Abiatal Avelino has been remarkably consistent hitting .286 over his last 10 games. .286 pre-All-Star and .308 post-All-Star. Again, Jerez, Abad and Selman are nice replacement options for potential Watson/Smith trades, but I would not count on them the way the Giants can currently count on Watson and Smith.

Joey Rickard may be an example of what's wrong with Rule 5: Las Vegas kid drafted out of U of AZ in 2012 @ 21 yo, good progress in Tampa Bay organization, picked by Baltimore in 2015 Rule 5 draft, "injured" (or ineffective) in 2016, bounced around in '17 & '18, cut with a bad start this year, and scooped by Farhan.
ReplyDeleteDoing great in SSS @ Sac sillyball (25 games: .398/.448/.570). Contact hitter, gets walks.
Arrested development?
RH batting OFer (throws left!)
Bring him on -- if there's a sell off -- will there be? Tied with AZ for 2nd in NL West, 2,5 games out of #2 WC, 3 from #1.
Is this for real?
Farhan has defintely made some valuable pick-ups to the NL roster (Dick, Yaz, Vogt, Pillar and Gott))and has also added good upper level depth to the organization (1st draft too early to tell) but the resurgence of the team (SPs, RPs) and the system (Top 100 players like Ramos, Bart, Lucianno, as well as Polomares, Cannario, Hjelle, Corry and quite a few more taking huges steps this year) can also be tied to players aquired by previous regimes..Time was right for a change but, while maybe a msstep year or two at the draft leading to a gap in AA (but still some decent relevers), they did not leave the system as bare or neglected as some seem to think, just took some time for the ccream to rise..And Farhan is reaping the benefits,,,Hopefully Farhan continues to build up this base and improves either the system or the MLB team..or both! Gonna be an intersting week!

Didnt mean that Farhan is not doing a good job, he is..just noting that the maturng and rising of previously drafted players is also really helping the organization and making his position a little stronger
