  1. The Visalia Rawhide avoided being swept at home for the first time all year with a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Little Giants started off well with a Joey Bart "no doubt" homerun to left field in the top of the 1st inning. They scored another run in the 2nd and one in the 3rd to take a 3-0 lead. Aaron Phillips, listed at 6'5" 225 lbs, back on the San Jose roster after a spot start for Sacramento, pitched well, giving up no hits in the first 4 innings. He then gave up 2 runs on a triple, however, with better game management, I am not sure any runs would have scored. The right fielder was playing towards center field when the batter hit a fly ball down the right field line that was just foul. It appeared that the batter was attempting to go down the right field line, but the right fielder did not adjust his position, he just went back toward right center and sure enough, the next pitch was a fly ball to right. If the right fielder had adjusted a few steps toward right he might have caught it, or at least cut it off.
The next Giants pitcher, Casey Meisner, listed at 6'7" 190 lbs, was kept in for the next 4 innings. He gave up the tying run in the 7th. After loading the bases, a grounder was hit to Villar at 3rd. He could have gone home for the sure out, but chose to try for the double play and the throw to 1st was just a bit too late. I wondered why they kept Meisner in the game after 3 innings. Perhaps they were trying to stretch him out. There were plenty of relief pitchers available.
I was sitting with a retired Superior Court judge who played baseball in high school and college many years ago. He played against Don Drysdale in high school. He said that Drysdale played 2nd base and pitched. Although he never batted against Drysdale, he did say that when Drysdale was warming up he and his teammates looked at each other and said they hoped they would not have to bat against him. His comment after watching Joey Bart catch was that Bart had good hands, the way he handled the glove when catching the ball. Joey threw out a runner trying for second. Joey seemed to stumble coming out of his crouch so he basically threw the ball while falling forward and still managed to get the runner. APGiantsfan

  2. If the Nationals are considering trading Carter Kieboom for bullpen help (see https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/07/nationals-trade-rumors-alex-colome-white-sox-shane-greene-tigers.html), Farhan probably (hopefully) has his fingers on that pulse!

Forget about 2019 -- it's a pipe dream this team has enough to play at a sustained .600 level: Kieboom and an OFer with POP covers some big gaps for the future. Get Kieboom and Jeremy De La Rosa for whatever Washington wants to put them over the top in 2019. They're not on Bum's no trade list. Already good, their pitching could be nigh unbeatable. They hit well enough -- lock down the starters and the pen for a couple prospects! They can take on the Dodgers. Maybe we can give them something else -- a backup 2Bman (either one), a great "D" OFer (any of them), whatever.
