Game Wrap 7/14/2019: Giants 8 Brewers 3

Tyler Beede led the way with his arm and bat as the Giants won another series.  Key Lines:

Brandon Belt LF/1B- 2 for 4, HR(11), BB.  BA= .240.  Belt's Bomb would have been a warning track out in all but 4 ballparks.  He's hitting .296 over his last 7 games and .281 over his last 15.

Brandon Crawford SS- 1 for 3, 2B, 2 BB.  BA= .226.  Crawford has suddenly decided to be a tough out.  He is slashing .278/.409/.556 in July albeit with 8 K's in 22 PA.

Kevin Pillar CF- 2 for 4, BB, Assist(2B).  BA= .246. The Pride of Cal St Dominguez Hills is hitting just .222 over his last 7 games but .310 over his last 30.

Donovan Solano 2B- 2 for 3, 2B, SF.  BA= .307.  Maybe time to make Donovan Solano the full time 2B, at least until he cools off?

Tyler Beede RHP- 2 for 4.  BA= .167.  Young Beedah not only got 2 hits, he scored a run and drove in one to help his own pitching effort.

Tyler Beede RHP- 6.2 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 5.44.  Beede did it all in this one:  Quality Start, went 2 outs past 6 innings, dominant K/BB.  Salvaging Beede's career after it was on life support last season would make the Giants recent draft record look a whole lot better and make their future beyond this season a whole lot brighter.  He doesn't even need  to be an ace.  Reliable 3'rd or 4'th SP would be a huge boost and one less piece they need to draft or trade for down the road.

The Giants are now 7-2 in July, 8-2 over their last 10 games and 21-15 since the first of June.  They have won 3 series in a row including a sweep of the Padres in San Diego.  The Giants are back to 4.5 games behind in the Wild Card race.  The Nationals who would currently be the first Wild Card team are also 8-2 over their last 10 games, but all the contenders for the second Wild Card all look beatable including the BrewCrew.

The Giants move on to Coors Field, a place that has been very tough on them lately, to say the least.  On top of that, they start the 4-game series with a doubleheader to make up for an earlier postponement with Jeff Samarzija facing German Marquez in the opener and Dereck Rodriquez getting the 26'th player designation so he can start Game 2.  Drew Pomeranz has apparently been moved to the bullpen for now.

Injuries are starting to become an issue for the Giants active roster.  Alex Dickerson has been out with a bad back.  Austin Slater did not start today due to a febrile illness, but was called on to replace Evan Longoria who exited after 2 AB's with severe pain from plantar fasciitis, which usually does not get better overnight.  He's apparently battled it for a year and a half.

A huge shout out to Joe Ritzo, Voice of the San Jose Giants, who will make his regular season MLB debut as a radio broadcaster in the doubleheader tomorrow as Dave Flemming is on assignment with a national TV broadcast.

  1. Wouldn't mind seeing Zach Green and/or Chris Shaw debuting in Coors Field.
    AND Joe Ritzo...

    1. would be a step in the right direction especially if Longoria and Sandoval could be moved

  2. I'll give the front office credit for inserting Beede in the starting rotation and moving Holland to the bullpen and having the patience to endure the ups and downs of a young pitcher like Beede. That's not an easy thing to do, hopefully Beede continues to progress..
