Logan Webb was not at his best but three home runs by Giants batters picked him up. Key Lines:
Matt Chapman 3B- 3 for 4, HR(21). BA= .246. Chapman has a little over a month to beat my projection of 25 HR's. I don't think he's going to win the Gold Glove part but he's also been very good on D at 3B.
Mike Yastrzemski RF- 1 for 4, HR(11). BA= .243. YtY is 5 for 13 with 2 HR's in his last 3 games.
Grant McCray CF- 1 for 3, HR(3), BB, SB(2). BA= .308. Homers in consecutive games. I didn't see it but my friend texted me and said he almost ran through on OF wall like his pop. McCray is certainly still in the "honeymoon" phase for a rook as it's still too soon for the league's pitchers to get a book on him but he's acting like he wants to stick around.
Logan Webb RHP- 5 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 9/2. ERA= 3.24. 110 pitches. Uncharacteristicaly subpar command from Webb. The homers picked him up.
Camilo Doval RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 4.47. A line like that is not going to tempt Melvin to put him back in the Closer role.
Tyler Rogers RHP- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.26. Rogers has had two scoreless appearances since his disaster on 8/25.
Ryan Walker RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(4). ERA= 1.95. Walker has the Closer job until he loses it.
Despite the Win, the Giants remain 5.5 games behind the Braves in the Wild Card playoff race.(not sure it's worth tracking this anymore).
Kyle Harrison LHP tries to clinch a series win tomorrow evening facing Freddy Peralta RHP.
Churn Watch:
Robbie Ray LHP and Jordan Hicks RHP both landed on the IL. Landon Roupp RHP and Austin Warren RHP were called up. Jakson Reetz C cleared waivers and was outrighted to AAA Sacramento.
"...the Giants remain 5.5 games behind the Braves in the Wild Card playoff race.(not sure it's worth tracking this anymore)." I dunno.
ReplyDeleteNot saying the Giants are showing any signs of doing anything like this, but I was thinking about that crazy Rockies run at the end 2007.
At the end of play on August 28th, the Rockies were 67-65. They were in 4th place in the West. They were in 6th(!) place in the Wild Card standings, 5.5 games behind the Padres. They caught the Padres at game 162, with a 22-9 run, both teams finishing at 89-73, forcing a game 163 at Coors. Rockies won in 13 innings to grab the Wild Card (Pads scored 2 in the top of the 13th, Rockies scored 3 in the bottom for the win.)
Crazy things happen every so often. Maybe...maybe...
If the Giants win tonight (0-0 top of the 5th inning), they will be 68-66 (2 over .500 like the 2007 Rockies).
DeleteTo finish 89-73 (like the 2007 Rockies), they need to go 21-7 against mostly playoff bound teams. Atlanta needs to go 16-14 against weaker opposition.
If SF does that, they deserve the playoffs!
Welp, that didn't happen.
DeleteWith a minimum IL for pitchers of 15 days, even with back dates this placing both Ray and Hicks on the shelf would seemingly end the season hopes for even the staunchest hold out.
ReplyDeleteGiants have September 2nd off (Labor Day!) but that's the only off day for the next 12 games so it seems there will be at least 1 "Starter" game and more stress on the overworked bull pen.
Probably a fair chance of KWT getting back — Miami this weekend?
I've heard Mason Black is coming back up on the next homestand
DeleteAustin Warren RHP has had 8 appearances (8 innings) without allowing an ER: 12 Ks, 5 Hs, 0 Walks, includes 3 games in Albuquerque.
