The Giants came back from early deficits to tie at 3 in the 8'th inning but lost in extra innings for the second game in a row. Ouch! Key Lines:
Tyler Fitzgerald SS- 1 for 5, HR(13). BA= .305. The HR got the Giants within run in the 3'rd inning but he failed to execute a bunt in the 10'th which cost the Giants a chance to get back the tie.
Heliot Ramos CF- 2 for 5, 3B. BA= .282. Every time I am about to give up on Heliot, he seems to have a good game.
Patrick Bailey C- 1 for 4. BA= .238. Bailey hit one about as hard as possible to lead off the 9'th but the Braves CF made a twisting catch at the CF wall for an out.
Kyle Harrison LHP- 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 4.14. Credit to the kid for hanging in there for 5 IP but another rough start.
Giants need to step it up and do the little things to win these last 2 games against the Braves. They had 2 runners on in the 8th inning and of course Conforto hits into the DP, but Braves pitcher throws wild pitch to give them the 3rd run. Fitz couldn't lay down the bunt in the 10th inning, and they've failed to bring home the free runner at 2nd base in the 10th inning 2 nights in a row, ouch! They should have a shot to win the next 2 games with Ray and Webb pitching. No matter what happens there are still a lot of baseball left to be played.
ReplyDeleteharrison and birdsong may have at least two or three starts left depending on where they are in the playoff race by the end of the month. if a playoff spot looks unlikely by the end of the month, shutting those two down for the season becomes a high priority. beck should back by september and you could plausibly go with a bullpen game every fifth day with roupp doing bulk innings if they want to try to stretch him.
ReplyDeleteI was at the game last night and sat behind 3B. Matt Chapman was a wizard at 3B making several excellent plays. I do not agree with the Giants having Tyler Fitzgerald bunt in the 10th inning with no outs and the ghost runner on 2nd. Fitzgerald is the Giants best hitter on the team. With a good bunt, it may have worked, but it didn't. I feel that letting him take his swings would have given them a better chance to score.
ReplyDelete2 runs in 6 innings against Charlie Morton on 4 days rest?
ReplyDeleteAre they likely to see that level in the playoffs, if they get there.
Of course, anything can happen...
There is a ride at Disneyland California Adventures called Guardians of the Galaxy and it’s basically an elevator that goes up and drops down then up and down up and down until you feel sick and beg to get off. I am at that point with the Giants. Sick to my stomach of the ups and downs and ready to get off the ride
