Thairo Estrada and Wilmer Flores were the hitting stars of this game but the Giants may have lost Ronald Guzman LHP, one of the more exciting players in camp, to an injury. Key Lines:
Austin Slater DH- 0 for 3, BB. Slater finally makes his first spring appearance in a game but as DH. Per Kap, he still needs to go through a throwing progression to play OF. I would think he starts the season on the IL if he can't do more than DH.
Thairo Estrada 2B- 2 for 3, 2B, 3B, SB(1). BA= .188. This is about the right time for Estrada's bat to start heating up.
Wilmer Flores 3B- 2 for 3, HR(1). BA= .167. Ditto Thairo Estrada.
Ross Stripling RHP- 3.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 6.48. Stripling gave up a couple of rockets in the 2'nd inning but would have been out of it were it not for a 2-out bloop single. The peripherals were fantastic.
Tristan Beck RHP- 2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, GO/AO= 4/0. ERA= 3.72. Beck continues to impress with a heavy FB and decent secondary stuff.
Ronald Guzman LHP- 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K. ERA= 8.10. Guzman oncorked a sailer and walked of mound hanging his left arm and appeared to be in pain. Reports say he felt the pain in his forearm. Not good! Guzman had been impressing with a high 90's FB and command of secondary stuff while trying to establish himself as a 2-way player. That plan may be on hold for awhile now. Too bad.
The Giants get on the bus to take on the Padres tomorrow in Peoria with Sean Manaea LHP facing Julio Teheran RHP.
