Luis Matos OF had a big day at the plate but the rest of the game was quite forgettable.
Matos homered in his second AB of the game in the 5'th inning. He later smoked one to CF that was caught by Michael Tucker then singled to RF in the 9'th. Per Alex P on NBC Sports Bay Area Matos was hampered by a quad strain most of last season but feels healthy this spring. He's put on some muscle weight and impressing the coaches in camp.
Alex Wood LHP and Jake Junis RHP allowed 4 ER in 2 IP each. Maybe we are entering the proverbial "dead arm" phase of spring training?
Joey Bart C had a hit in 2 AB's and picked a runner of 1B. I think that is at least the second runner he's picked off this spring. He's still hitting .300 and would seem to still be in the thick of battle for the starting C job. Blake Sabol C started the game and drew a walk in 2 PA's and drew a catcher interference call. The bat is exciting but can Sabol handle the defensive duties at C?
Tyler Rogers RHP got 2 GO's in a scoreless frame to keep his spring ERA at 0.00.
The Dodgers come to Scottsdale tomorrow afternoon with Alex Cobb getting the start.
PS: Mitch Haniger was a late scratch with a sore oblique. He's expected to miss a couple of days but no testing planned.
ReplyDeleteJust saw that Haniger had an MRI which revealed a Grade 1 oblique tear. Hope he recovers fast, they are talking about him missing only a week. With the 3 year contract, seems prudent to err on the side of caution.
ReplyDeleteNot great news but could be worse. Worst thing they can do is rush him back.
