Down on the Farm: 8/11/2018

AAA  El Paso Chihuahuas nipped the Sacramento River Cats 2-1:

Jordan Johnson RHP- 6.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 6.21.
Hunter Strickland RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 3.40.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels got away from the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5-3:

CJ Hinojosa DH- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .274.
Dylan Davis LF- 1 for 3, HR(12), BB.  BA= .249.
Logan Webb RHP- 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 0 K, GO/AO= 9/5.  ERA= 3.60.
Sam Wolff RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 7.94.

Logan Webb got better results today than in his first AA start, but the K/BB leaves something to be desired.  This was arguably Sam Wolff's strongest appearance of the season so far.

A+  San Jose Giants edged out the Stockton Ports 3-2:

Jalen Miller 2B- 2 for 3, BB, Sac.  BA= .278.
Heath Quinn DH- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(12), BB.  BA= ..305.
Johneshwy Fargas LF- 2 for 4, SB(28), CS(12).  BA= .278.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets smothered the Greenville Drive 3-1:

Heliot Ramos CF- 3 for 4, 3B.  BA= .242.
Ryan Kirby 1B- 2 for 4.  BA= .228.
Caleb Baragar LHP- 5.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 4.62.

John Russell RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(6).  ERA= 1.99.

Go Heliot, go!  Can Heliot Ramos finish the season with a .250 BA or higher?  Fun with numbers:  In 3 of his last 4 Starts, Caleb Baragar has allowed 1 ER with 22 K's and just 1 BB, in 18.1 IP.  The other Start was a disastrous 8 ER in 3 IP.  Consistency, consistency, consistency!

Short Season  Vancouver Canadians topped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 8-5:

Diego Rincones LF- 1 for 4, 2B, HBP, Assist(home).  BA= .357.
David Villar 3B- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .285.
Jett Manning SS- 1 for 3, BB.  BA= .200.
Gregory Santos RHP- 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 3.80.
JJ Santa Cruz LHP- 3 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 0.00.

Gregory Santos as struck on the head by a 105 MPH line drive off the bat of Griffin Conine.  He was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.  No updated on his condition as of this post.  I've said it before, I'll say it again.  It is not a question of if, but when, a pitcher is killed by a batted ball somewhere on professional baseball.  This foreseeable event can be easily prevented by requiring pitchers to wear protective headgear.  Another Assist by Diego Rincones.  Maybe they are relay throws but he must be doing something right on defense out there to get credited with this may assists.

Samuel Quintana LHP- 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 3.38.

Keep an eye on Samuel Quintana, a 17 yo, 6'5", 215 lb lefty who has 20 K's in 18.2 IP.

  1. Update on Gregory Santos: He is apparently going to be "OK" according to S-K Manager Hector Borg. He should rejoin his teammates in 1-2 days and will be on a concussion protocol. According to the milb.com report, Borg would not speculate on whether Santos would pitch again this season.

  2. Diego Rincones is just 19 yo, -2.0 for the NWL, 3rd in BA -- 2 guys ahead of him are 22 yo, 1 has been promoted to low A.
His 6 assists are all from LF, he's only played 9 of 301 innings in RF.
He and Aaron Bond(s) are tied for 6th in HRs.
David Villar is 2nd (NWL) in HRs and SLG.
S-K is tops (of 8 teams) in R, H, 2B, HR, RBI, BA, OBP, & SLG.
Team pitching stats win none awards.

    1. None might be a little harsh. But it IS a hitting team.

  3. Mac Williamson put on the D/L today. He has lingering concussion issues. Damn shame for him. Hope he gets better. But it, sadly, looks like my speculation to the reason for his terrible 'post-concussion' performance in AAA was right.

    1. In a perverse way, that's "good" news, because it "explains" what's wrong. and, hopefully, he'll be A-OK next year!

    2. That's a good point. As opposed to 'hot streak and it's over.'

    3. what's worse is that he is out of options next season
