AAA Sacramento River Cats blanked the Albuquerque Isotopes 2-0:
Orlando Calixte SS- 1 for 3, HR(7). BA= .271.
Madison Bumgarner LHP- 1 for 1. BA= 1.000.
Madison Bumgarner LHP- 3.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Mark Melancon RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.00.
Tyler Beede RHP- 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 6.23.
8 of 11 outs Madison Bumgarner recorded were by strikeout. He allowed 1 BB and no hits. Dominance! Since the Giants SP's have trouble going more than 4 innings anyway, why not let him ramp up his pitch count with the Giants? Mark Melancon's rehab seems to be going better this time. Tyler Beede still has the walks, but better results in his 4 IP.

i think beede's future is out of the bullpen. maybe he can be a future closer out of the pen.
ReplyDeleteCove Chatter went to SacTown and said Beede exclusively pitched from the stretch. Said he looked better that way. He also gushed all-over-himself about Bumgarner.
ReplyDeleteDerek Holland is the only pitcher who is a FA next year. With the 5 position players, that's $39M coming off with a net negative in raises except for arbitration for Panik plus Dyson and Hernandez if they are kept.
ReplyDeleteA third of the way into the season being 2 games under .500, 2 games out of the playoffs (winning the West), and the best 2 starters, Melancon and maybe Black into the BP, Panik and a rejuvenated Pence coming, and maybe a real defensive CFer, Giants' Fans have a lot to look forward to in this long forsaken season!
Another note about last night's River Cats game: Pence got rung up in the 8th on a very low pitch -- 3rd of a sequence: low, lower, and more lower -- Pence took issue and jawed with the ump. Hector argues a call!
There were 22 Ks in the game and they helped Beede a lot.
One more thing: Calixte's inside-the-park HR was a thing of beauty -- once the RFer made a dive on a low liner and wiffed letting the ball continue to the fence it was a foot race.
I'm thinking the same thing with Bumgarner! If he's throwing 70 pitches in his next start, that should get him roughly to 4-5 inning, which is not any worse than what the pitchers in there has been doing.
ReplyDeleteThe pitcher I would take out is Blach, who I would put into the long relief role to stabilize that middle inning role, where Pierce Johnson has, unfortunately, been horrible at this month. Some point out Holland, but he's actually been good this month, 3.81 ERA. And Stratton and Suarez strikes out a lot more batters.
