AAA Tacoma Rainiers outscored the Sacramento River Cats 8-5:
Steven Duggar CF- 1 for 4, 2B, BB, SB(6). BA= .246.

Beede allowed just 1 hit and 1 walk through 4 IP. 2 walks and an error loaded the bases with no outs in the 5'th but he got out of it with a pop-up, flyball out and another pop-up. Another walk with 1 out in the 6'th followed by a double, ground-out and 2 more doubles resulted in a 3-spot for Tacoma. The 7'th went double, single, GIDP before DJ Snelton was brought in to retire Dan Vogelbach.

A+ Modesto Nuts topped the San Jose Giants 7-5:
Bryce Johnson CF- 2 for 4, 2B, BB, SB(6). BA= .274.
Jalen Miller 2B- 3 for 5, 2 2B. BA= .295.
Wander Franco 3B- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .309.
Love what Jalen Miller is doing this season in his 2'nd chance at high A ball. He's still just 21 years old. Next hurdle is AA and the EL, but I would keep him in most of this season to try for some sustained success. Maybe promote him for the last month to give him a bit of a headstart on the EL for 2019.

Thanks for the daily updates Doc, read them every day.
ReplyDeleteJust wondering what your thoughts are on the likelihood of a starting outfield next year of some combination of Slater, Shaw, Duggar and Williamson.
I just don't see the Giants leaving all three OF spots without some good veteran proven performance, so even if Mac does what we hope he continues to do, I can see the Giants signing McCutchen to a deal, or if too pricy, go for a lesser OF free agent. Of course, they will also pursue Bryce Harper, so the McCutchen deal will be later not sooner, so we'll see if he's still around, as Boras free agents like Harper like to play chicken with the teams into Jan/Feb.
DeleteIf I were to guess, I assume they will sign a RF free agent, let Mac and Shaw battle for LF (and Slater too, but he seems to be slotted for utility role by how they are using him so far), and hopefully Duggar in CF, I don't think the Giants can go through another season using Jackson as a temporary starting CF.
Luigi Rodríguez managed to raise his average from .407 to .416 -- when a batter is at or above .400 BA, he has to hit .500 or more in a game to raise his average!
ReplyDeleteWill there ever be another .400 average in MLB?
Mac Williamson could begin a rehab assignment this weekend. According to Giants reporter Amy Gutierrez, Williamson took part in early batting practice Tuesday and has passed all baseball activity tests and exertion tests. (John Shea on Twitter)
Yeah, excited about Jalen Miller as well. That sounds like a good plan, especially since he'll still be only 22 YO for next season, and reaching AA at that age is still a great accomplishment. So give him a taste late in this season, then he'll get the jitters out then and start 2019 with greater knowledge of what's to come.
