AAA Las Vegas 51's came from behind to top the Sacramento River Cats 6-5:
Orlando Calixte SS- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(3). BA= .282.
Chris Shaw LF- 3 for 4, 2B, 2 HR(7). BA= .263.
Hunter Pence RF- 2 for 4. BA= .313.
Dereck Rodriguez RHP- 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 4.26.
Huge game for Chris Shaw. Heeeere comes Hunter Pence!

AA Altoona Curve edged out the Richmond Flying Squirrels 3-2 in 10 innings:
Dylan Davis LF- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .263.
Garrett Williams LHP- 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 4.03.
Ray Black RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 1.13.
Ray Black looks ready for a callup....to the Giants! Yeah! I just want to see the guy pitch at least 1 inning in the majors before his arm falls off.
*********************************************************************************
A+ San Jose Giants defeated the Visalia Rawhide 4-1:
Jalen Miller 2B- 3 for 5, 2 2B. BA= .307.
Brandon Van Horn SS- 2 for 4. BA= .219.
Logan Webb RHP- 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 1.06.
DJ Myers RHP- 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 6.33.
Patrick Ruotolo RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, Save(3). ERA= 0.79.
Jalen Miller is still only 21 years old. All those AB's in the low minors seem to be finally paying off. Logan Webb graduates to 4 innings. Maybe the plan is to add an inning to his limit each month?

Low A Augusta Greenjackets beat the West Virginia Power 3-1:
Manuel Geraldo SS- 2 for 4, 2B, SB(5). BA= .275.
Jose Marte RHP- 5.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 2.55.
SJ Gettman RHP- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.26.
Camilo Doval RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 8.31.
Frank Rubio RHP- 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.35.
Sleeper watch on Jose Marte. Camilo Doval has 6 scoreless appearances since 4/12.

Ray Black was humming last night -- faced 6 batters, threw 27 pitches, the "other" out was a pop-up.
ReplyDeleteHe's given up 1 XBH, a double, in the the one "bad" game he had -- walked 2, gave up his only ER.
Can he jump from AA to the majors? He'll be 28 next month, it's pretty much now or never, isn't it?
Anyone know who Keith Law projected as the Giants round 1 pick?
ReplyDeleteNot sure, but I think either Swaggerty or Bohm.
DeleteAccording to a blurb at MCC, Law has the Giants taking Singer.
Delete...and Keith Law pretty much hates Brady Singer, so if he thinks the Giants are going to take him #2 overall, that kind of hints at what he thinks of John Barr and the Giants drafting strategy.
DeleteDereck Rodriguez has given up 2 HRs in each of his last 3 games in 5-6 IP per game (SLC, Sac, LV).
ReplyDeletePCL can be a tough place to pitch but he, Tyler Beede, and Casey Kelly have watched a lot of big flies which isn't going to play too well in AZ and Col or against "power" teams anywhere.
Do you think Rodriguezcan overcome this tendency?
I basically pay no attention to HR's allowed in Reno, Las Vegas, Colorado Springs or Albuquerque. Those places make Coors Field seem like a pitcher's paradise.
DeleteAdd Salt Lake City to that list.
DeleteOne of his 2 HR parks was Raley Field (Sac) but that can play tough for pitchers sometimes
DeleteJust to be clear, I think Dereck Rodriguez is an extreme long shot to ever have a significant MLB career, but I wouldn't make too much of dinger rates in the PCL.
DeleteSorry to rain on the parade, but who would we DFA in order to bring Black up? Unless Cueto turns out to be TJS, there is no other 60-day DL candidates.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I would love to see Black attack some hitters in the majors, see them get blown away (or walked...).
IDK, maybe Roberto Gomez? Chase Johnson? Okert? Osich? I would not shed too many tears if any of them got claimed by another team.
DeleteOsich seems obvious given the number of LHP and his struggles.
