Down on the Farm: 5/20/2018

AAA  Salt Lake City Bees swarmed over the Sacramento River Cats 12-5:

Steven Duggar CF- 0 for 5.  BA= .245.
Hunter Pence DH- 1 for 5.  BA= .311.
Ryder Jones 3B- 2 for 5, 2 2B.  BA= .285.
Myles Schroder 2B- 4 for 5, 2 2B, 3B.  BA= .316.
Caleb Gindl RF- 4 for 5.  BA= .304.
Orlando Calixte SS- 2 for 4, SB(6).  BA= .282.

I think Myles Schroder makes an ideal utility prospect because he can be a 3'rd string catcher, which gives the manager multiple additional in-game options off the bench.

AA  Harrisburg Senators defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 8-2:

Luigi Rodriguez RF- 1 for 2, BB, SF.  BA= .421.
Chase Johnson RHP- 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 5.40.

Good to see Chase Johnson back on the mound after lasting just 0.2 IP in his last start.  Luigi!

A+  San Jose Giants beat the Stockton Ports 5-1:

Bryce Johnson CF- 1 for 3, BB, SB(8).  BA= .260.
Jalen Miller 2B- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .302.
Gio Brusa DH- 1 for 4, 3B.  BA= .248.
Conner Menez LHP- 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 3.40.
Orleny Quiroz LHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 0.00.

Jalen Miller continues to have a terrific season.  An Orleny Quiroz sighting!  This was his stateside debut after languishing in the DSL for 3 seasons.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets vs Greenville Drive Suspended after 1.5 innings with the score tied 1-1:

Heliot Ramos CF- 1 for 1.  BA= .217.
Manuel Geraldo SS- 1 for 1, HR(5).  BA= .306.

  1. Schroder has played all 8 positions (he even pitched 1.1 innings!) and is enjoying, at 30 yo, his best season.
Plus he's a local kid, drafted at 19 yo in the 27th round.
    He must LOVE baseball!
If the Giants fall out of it, they ought to give him some major league games in September to reward perseverance!

  2. GPT @giantsprospects OF Austin Slater pulled from the game for Sacramento in the bottom of the 3rd inning.
Giant Potential@giant_potential there was no apparent injury

    On his way to Houston?
    Don't bet on it!

Joe Ritzo‏@JoeRitzo · #SJGiants closer Patrick Ruotolo has been promoted to AA-Richmond. Ruotolo 1.47 ERA in 18 1/3 innings with SJ this season, 7 BB/26 SO, 1.04 WHIP, 6-for-6 in save opportunities. Former 27th round pick has a career 1.49 ERA in three pro seasons.

The Giants HAVE to take Slater to Houston, they have to, they have to.
Rotate a pitcher or something between games but the Giants don't have 8 credible batters much less 9!
    You gotta have a DH.
Or maybe it will be Pence -- homecoming to Houston? That would be better than Blanco DHing.
What's more than a DH -- the Giants need hitters in Houston, the Astros are going to score, about 15 runs, 14 if SF pitching tightens up, but seriously, this is a hitters park -- bring some hitters!

  3. Between Garcia, Brown, and Sanchez, Schroeder may be a viable September callup. Never thought that would happen. Would be an awesome story.
