Down on the Farm: 5/11/2018

Salt Lake City Bees swarmed over the Sacramento River Cats 9-2:

Austin Slater RF- 2 for 4, 2 2B.  BA= .384.
Myles Schroder 1B- 2 for 3, BB.  BA= .265.
Chase d'Arnaud 2B- 0 for 2, 2 BB.  BA= .274.
Matt Gage LHP- 5.1 IP, 9 H,  6 R, 2 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 3.86.
Josh Osich LHP- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Caleb Baragar LHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 0.00.
Ray Black RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 27.00.

I continue to not understand why Austin Slater is not on the 25 man roster, at least while Mac Williamson and Hunter Pence are on the DL.  Not sure what Caleb Baragar has done to get on on the AAA team.  The good and bad of Ray Black on display.  Let's see how he does in future AAA appearances.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirels defeated the Trenton Thunder 6-1:

Dillon Dobson 2B- 1 for 2, HR(3), 2 BB.  BA= .173.
Jordan Johnson RHP- 7 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 2.43.

He might need 1 or 2 more, but this start by Jordan Johnson is the type that will earn you a promotion.

A+  San Jose Giants edged out the Lancaster Jethawks 3-2:

Gio Brusa DH- 2 for 4.  BA= .283.
Matt Winn C- 1 for 3, HR(4).  BA= .293.
Raffi Vizcaino RHP- 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 9 K's.  ERA= 4.02.

Raffi Vizcaino's strongest start of the season so far.  The walks need to come down.  He has 21 in 31.1 IP.

Low A  Rome Braves beat the Augusta Greenjackets 6-2:

Logan Baldwin RF- 3 for 5, 2B, 3B.  BA= .265.
Heliot Ramos CF- 2 for 5.  BA= .220.
Jacob Gonzalez 3B- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .261.
Manuel Geraldo SS= 2 for 4.  BA= .303.
Garrett Cave RHP- 3.2 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 4.05.
Olbis Parra RHP- 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.26.
Frank Rubio RHP- 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 1.53.

Logan Baldwin is red hot.  Heliot Ramos is 6 for 20 over his last 5 games.  Jacob Gonzalez has hit in 7 of his last 8 games and is 9 for 30 in that span.  He has raised his BA from .236 to .261 over his last 4 games going 6 for 13.

  1. Little Luigi went 1-4 and dropped 10 points to .419! Got an RBI in the leadoff slot.
It's really hard to stay above .400!

  2. A lot of ink at SFGATE and McC C on Austin Slater. I check the River Cats summary every morning to see how Slater did in his last game - hope he gets called up to the Big Club before AS Break.

    1. The Giants are caught between the need for relief pitchers and fearing to lose the OFer they DFA so they can keep 13 pitchers.
OTOH, at this point 1 OFer is less than they need to turn this around, and it's not entirely clear that they don't need a fielder (Duggar) more than a hitter (Slater).
