Down on the Farm: 7/2/2015

AAA  Sacramento River Cats thumped the Salt Lake City Bees 10-4:

Kelby Tomlinson(2B)- 2 for 4, SB(1).  BA= .258.
Mac Williamson(RF)- 4 for 4, 2B, HR(1), BB, Assist(2B).  BA= .321.
Ty Blach(LHP)- 6.2 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 4.26.
Steven Okert(LHP)- 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 4.18.

Tomlinson and Williamson got off to slow starts in AA, but Kelby had a solid game here and Mac just went off.  Raised his BA by over 100 points.  Showed off his power and his arm.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels blanked the Harrisburg Senators 2-0:

Rando Moreno(SS)- 2 for 4.  BA= .310.
Kelvin Marte(LHP)- 8 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.39.
Derek Law(RHP)- 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's, Save(2).  ERA= 1.80.

*********************************************************************************

High A  San Jose Giants defeated the Stockton Ports 7-3:

Christian Arroyo(SS)- 2 for 4, HR(4), BB.  BA= .333.
Angel Villalona(1B)- 2 for 5, 2 HR(2).  BA= .280.
Ryder Jones(3B)- 2 for 5.  BA= .289.
Daniel Carbonell(LF)- 3 for 5, 2B, 3B, SB(2).  BA= .370.
Ray Black(RHP)- 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 2.35.

Arroyo is 9 for 12 with 2 HR's over his last 3 games.  Could be a candidate for BA's hot sheet?  The Giants are apparently serious about stretching Ray Black out and making him a starter.  Villalona and Carbonell are trying to find some footing to spring back to higher levels from.

*********************************************************************************

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets vs Savannah Sand Gnats postponed.

*********************************************************************************

Short Season  Boise Hawks topped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 6-4:

Ronnie Jebavy(CF)- 4 for 5, SB(3).  BA= .267.
Chris Shaw(1B)- 2 for 5, HR(1).  BA= .250.

Jebavy bounces back from some rough games.   Shaw hits his first professional HR.

*********************************************************************************

Rookie AZL  Giants edged out the D'Backs 7-6:

Jalen Miller(SS)- 3 for 4, 2B, BB, SB(3).  BA= .440.
Nathanael Javier(3B)- 2 for 4.  BA= .243.
Julio Benitez(RHP)- 2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.25.
Kendry Melo(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 4.50.
Tyler Cyr(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Matthew Pope(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(1).  ERA= 0.00.

Miller might be another Hot Sheet candidate.  What a great start to his pro career he is off to?

*********************************************************************************

DSL  Giants beat the Rockies 4-0:

Mecky Coronado(LF, 18 yo)- 2 for 3, 2B, SF.  BA= .435.
Jose Patino(CF, 17 yo)- 2 for 4.  BA= .229.
Raffi Vizcaino(RHP, 19 yo)- 6.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 1.15.

Vizcaino had just 2 IP last year after a decent pro debut in 2013 at age 17 so he is apparently coming off an injury?

  1. Great night for the farm system! I'm never certain of much anymore when it comes to prospecting, but I can say with certainty that I believe Mac is going to be the Giants starting LF for at least a few years. I can't wait for the time to come. I've been on vacation for the past week or so, and haven't been able to completely keep up, but I've been very impressed with the players who earned promotions in the system. Really, Jose Reyes in SJ is about the only one who has struggled since his promotion. Beede & Stratton have done pretty well... but the hitters are making the organization look GOOD right now. Mac, Tomlinson, Cole, Slater... keep the bats rolling guys!

    1. Cole definitely has taken me by surprise the way he has progressed. I didn't see it coming. I was expecting Slater and Williamson to do well but Cole has been a pleasant surprise. Our position prospects are increasing each year. Have to love the scouting these last few years.

  2. Any chance Miller might break into short season if he continues to hit?

    1. I would say most likely not, but nothing the Giants do with prospect promotion completely surprises me.

  3. Arroyo's at number 3 in the BA Hot Sheet! When I read the MiLB article on his 5-hit game, I remembered way back when I commented here that he wants to be more of himself, a hitting machine that focuses on making contact with the ball, putting the ball in play, getting on base and not focused on hitting homers, that resulted to a really great start early in April until he went to the DL. He showed great makeup and work ethic, remembering that and continuing it, resulting to the Hot Sheet.

    1. If Arroyo can stick at SS he could become very valuable. Hitting SS are rare. Not many Tulos in the MLB. Same goes for Jalen Miller who we just drafted and Lucius Fox as an International FA. I see one of these guys eventually being traded for a crop of talent due to their position and quality bat.

  4. Reportedly the Giants are about to DFA Ishikawa, after a few demitasses of coffee this year, and bring up Ryan Lollis, who has hit quite well but has been buoyed by a very high BABIP. I hope he will keep it enough so as to reinforce CC's point, above, about the system's hitters.

    1. Well, Travis has not looked good at all in the few MLB AB's he's had. Lollis has certainly earned a chance at his own cup-o-joe.

  5. Definitely seeing a pattern here. Lollis has 31BB v 35K. Looks like Panik and Duffy numbers. Giants are more than willing to sacrifice power for OBP and K/BB. I think it is a good move. I just wish Williamson had more time in AAA to get the call. I think Williamson will be a September callup for sure.

Peavy scares me with the numbers he put up in the minor rehabs. If he falls flat, who do you think would be the next callup for a starting role besides Timmy and Huddy? Stratton has pitched well in AAA. Any thoughts?

    1. Stratton is a possibility. He seems to be a better bet than Ty Blach or Clayton Blackburn right now. Don't forget Nik Turley, a big LHP who has pitched very well his last 3 starts.

  6. Note in MLBTR that the Braves are willing to trade pitching prospects for a young catcher. How about Susac for Touki and Lucas Sims?

    1. I saw that note. I am not sure the Giants will trade Susac for prospects right now, in the middle of a race. He is too integral to the roster flow right now.

If the Braves were willing to wait for the offseason, than I think that is a real possibility.

    2. I would love some Touki! Lucas Sims is pretty injured this season but I still love the potential that he brings. Just not sure if we can get the two with just Susac.

  7. Josh Osich also up big moves today

  8. I called Osich moving ahead of Okert on the depth chart when he was called up to AAA.

    1. I just saw the call-up and tweet and I was just getting ready to acknowledge your call.

  9. Watched Osich's debut. 2BB, K, 0R. Changeup 83MPH, Slider 91MPH, FB 96MPH. Looked a little nervous which is normal. Rags came out to calm him down and then he induced Harper and Robinson to pop up. Will be a nice addition to Lopez.
