  1. What's been happening lately with the lanky power kid in the DSL? What's his name?? How's his average holding up, haven't seen him lately in the recaps.

For the DSL, since I'm asking, what do you consider a necessary average/ops to move state side? Certainly it's age dependant, but this kid is pretty young yes?

    1. Francisco Medina has cooled off a bit but is still hitting .255 which is not terrible for that league.

Not set stat cutoffs in the DSL. It's more about scouting and age vs level. I look at K/BB's as a pretty good indicator of readiness for the next level.

    2. Nice, thanks. Hope to see the kid work his way back into the highlights.

  2. Beede may prove the even year theory true if he continues to pitch well and makes it to the Giants sometime next season. I think the biggest need for the Giants is starting pitching and if they get that solidified they'll be great again. I could see a rotation of Bum, Price/Zimmerman??, and Beede as kind of a Bumgarner 2010 version, being pretty killer, with Cain and Heston rounding things out.

    1. I agree - I think Beede will be in the SF rotation some time in 2016. With a strong finish to this year, and a good Spring Training, he might even start the season with the big club. But I'm starting to get more optimistic about 2016.

  3. I been wondering any chance the Giants give up on Crick and use him to acquire a big name piece like a Hamels or Cueto or maybe a big bat?

    1. Three questions:
Where would you play the big bat to improve on the Giants' lineup of Aoki, Pagan or Blanco, Pence, Belt, Panik, Crawford, Duffy, Posey?
Can the Giants give up on Crick and yet have him be a significant part of a trade in a market with many suitors for those Big Names? The same problems that would make us give up on him will make other teams equally less eager to have him, no?
Cueto is a half-season rental who might increase our wins by two, since his halfway fWAR is 2.2. IF we don't get into the postseason, or we get pushed out of it quickly, two meaningless wins seems like a very low return for Crick and whoever else it would take to get Cueto. We can't get a compensatory draft pick by making Cueto a QO, so we're making a large gamble on getting into the postseason, where Cueto might tip a couple of games our way. Given that we're currently at .500, is this gamble worth taking?

    2. Crick probably does not have a lot of trade value right now.

  4. Crick had a pretty Crickian line. 27 pitches for two thirds of an inning, with 3 walks and 2 K's. I really hope he figures this out...

  5. Has anyone been following Hunter Cole? He was drafted in the 26th round last year. Converted to OF by the Giants. Played Short A and Rookie League last year. He's already to AA this year, having progressed from A to High A (Mid-season All Star too) in succession.

Over the three leagues he's been tearing it up, hitting .311 with an a .867 OPS. Including .344 in AA though not that many ABs so I'm not reading much into it, yet it's not like he flat on his face with the promotion either.

And he's only 22 and 179lbs (at 6' 1") so there's probably room and time to grow and develop more power. And considering he has almost an many triples (6) as HRs (7), I think he's probably got some decent wheels.

It's just like he came out of nowhere.

    1. I remember reading in some post draft scouting reports that he had some bp power potential but stuck out a lot. Supposedly ranked a lot higher than where he was drafted.
If he can play second and third in the bigs he'd have to be worth watching.

    2. I think I have been reporting on Cole all along.
