Futures Game:

Tyler Beede pitched an inning.  Threw mostly sinkers and cutters.  I saw a couple of 91 MPH.  He reportedly topped out at 92.  Good pitch movement.  A couple of curveballs had nice bite.  Didn't get a good look at a changeup.  Kept hitters off balance.  Gave up 1 hit on a hard hit ball.  Got 1 groundout, 1 pop out, 1 long fly out.

Keury Mella faced 3 batters, gave up 2 line drive hits.  Hit 94 MPH on the gun.  Didn't seem to have much of an idea where the ball was going.  Appeared to be a bit nervous in front of the big crowd.

  1. Do you think with the way Broadway's season is going plus his stuff that he can be a valueable trade chip for us?

  2. Re: Crick. Two other pitchers who, at the start of their careers, had trouble finding home plate to the point that people despaired of their chances for successful careers - Sandy Koufax and Nolan Ryan.

    1. That would be the optimistic take, to say the least.

    2. The problem with stories like that is how many hundreds didn't? And that's the problem. You don't hear the stories of all the failures. But they're there. And, for the most part, they are the story and those like Koufax and Ryan are the exceptions to the general rule of failure.

  3. Sounds like Beede is using Chris Heston as a model. How things change ....

  4. Wrenzie also wrote up the futures game. He said pretty much the same things as you. Beede looked good. Mella, a lot of velocity, but not so much control.

  5. Check this great interview with Giants consensus #1 prospect Tyler Beede.

Kid has easy confidence, had a few very good things to say about the Giants minor league development system, and it didn't seem forced at all. I think this kid has a very real and bright future coming on.
