  1. Woh, all of a sudden Stratton is seeming like we had the kid pegged wrong.. Could be a dark horse underdog candidate to be a legitimate SF starter. Even with all his meh over the last 3 years, he always kind of stuck around in the background, despite being a disappointment nearly the whole time. Well, do you think the kid was just biding his time, getting stronger and working on his weaknesses? Looks pretty solid GB/FO, H/9, IPs and runs scored in the first few goes in a hitter friendly AAA..

Additionally - Loving Fargas in Augusta. Low-A has always been a challenge for tweener hit-tool guys and he's been extremely consistent all season. He'll be still 20 at the season's end, and I think room to grow as a player still. I don't remember a lot of guys succeeding like this with plus tools in single-A, who we considered serious prospects. 4 SBs in a single game, 75% success rate. I don't know, the kid feels legit.

    1. I think it is possible Stratton has been working on specific things to and is just now incorporating everything he has developed in to a MLB ready package.

  2. When Xavier Avery was a Tigers prospect earlier this year, an article by Rob Rogacki provided a rundown on him: very toolsy, very fast, great outfield range, dangerous base runner, who has never been able to put it all together. Anyone who wants to see the high praise for him from Sickels et al., and the records of his repeated underperformance so far, can do so at: blessyouboys.com/2015/1/28/7925569/Xavier-Avery-scouting-report-tigers.

  3. Gotta feel sorry for Stratton giving up 1 run in the last 16 Innings of pitching and have nothing to show for it. Hope he keeps it up. Gotta be frustrating.

    1. I think that is just part of being a starting pitcher these days. Their success should probably be measured on some formula derived from QS, Dominant Starts and Disaster Starts similar to how ogc analyzes them over on his blog.
