Down on the Farm: 7/26/2015

AAA  Sacramento River Cats vs Albuquerque Isotopes postponed.

*********************************************************************************

AA  Erie Seawolves devoured the Richmond Flying Squirrels 10-1:

Engel Beltre(CF)- 2 for 5.  BA= .309.
Austin Slater(2B)- 3 for 5.  BA= .323.
Mitch Delfino(3B)- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .259.
Tyler Beede(RHP)- 0.1 IP, 1 H, 5 R, 3 BB, HBP, 1 K.  ERA= 4.95.
Kyle Crick(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 2.98.

Rough start for Beede, who seemed to have control issues.  A clean inning for Kyle Crick!  2 appearances in a row with 0 BB's.  He has 4 K's in those 2 games.  A definite sign of progress!

High A  San Jose Giants extinguished the Bakersfield Blaze 9-1:

Christian Arroyo(SS)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .329.
Angel Villalona(1B)- 3 for 5, HR(7).  BA= .282.
Brian Ragira(DH)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .248.
Brandon Bednar(3B)- 2 for 4, HR(2), BB.  BA= .239.
Chase Johnson(RHP)- 6.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 7 K's, GO/AO= 9/2.  ERA= 2.77.

I don't know if Arroyo will get an August callup to Richmond, but it would be good to give him a head start on next season's assignment.  On the other hand, it would be good for him to finish this season strong in high A ball too.  The Giants have depth in the organization to make a trade or two at the deadline.  I would point to Chase Johnson as exhibit A.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets edged out the Delmarva Shorebirds 5-4 in 10 innings:

Johneshwy Fargas(CF)- 2 for 5, SB(52).  BA= .282.
Will Callaway(3B)- 3 for 5, 3B.  BA= .271.
Dylan Davis(RF)- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .238.
Michael Santos(RHP)- 5.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 7/1.  ERA= 1.54.
Tyler Cyr(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 0.96.

Davis has a 4 game hit streak in which he is 9 for 18 with 2 2B and a HR.  Speaking of depth, nice to have Santos back putting up solid pitching lines.

*********************************************************************************

Short Season  Hillsboro Hops topped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 4-3:

Logan Webb(RHP)- 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 9/3.  ERA= 4.00.

Volcanoes somehow scored 3 runs on just 2 hits.

*********************************************************************************

Rookie AZL  D'Backs outscored the Giants 11-7:

Nathanael Javier(3B)- 4 for 5.  BA= .185.
Jean Angomas(PR-RF)- 2 for 4.  BA= .174.
Zach Bowers(Catcher)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .138.
Jake Dunning(RHP)- 4 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 2.70.
Grant Watson(LHP)- 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 1.69.

If you are wondering who Zachary Bowers is, so was I.  24'th round draft pick this year.

  1. I'm curious if we'll see Engel Beltre up in The Show this season. Not a bad minor league signing at all. Always good to have some depth.

You might've seen that Mikey Edie got pulled from last night's AZL game after being HBP. So Angomas pinch ran for him fro 3B. Last time we had a guy get drilled and tough it out to 3B? Leg injury. Oh no, I sure hope Edie is alright. Meantime, Angomas made the most of his opportunity. 2-for-4, like you mention. With a run scored and an outfield assist to 2B.

I'm really digging that many of our prospects are doing well this season. Heaps of guys making great strides. Even my 2014 "sleeper pick" Ben Turner has only one game in Sac where he hasn't reached safely at least once. I guess he got called back up after Quiroz got released? Gage jumped from Augusta to Richmond?! Hello! Love his easy motion. Quick turn for Xavier Avery, got released this past week and already is playing for the Twins in AAA. Went 2-for-5 last night in his first game for Rochester. Cheers.

  2. Long time...unfortunately...but still been keeping up with the Giants system..I think there are alot of good things going on....I know records aren't everything, but the turnarounds in SJ and RIC (even AUG) from early season woes have been amazing and a reflectiion of the new and rising playersin the system (i.e., Ramirez, Coonrod, Santos, Fargas in AUgusta)..

DRB - "The Giants have depth in the organization to make a trade or two at the deadline. I would point to Chase Johnson as exhibit A" Exactly, although I would hate to lose him!....Every year, I read how the Giants don't have the prospects to make a deal for a big player..,maybe it's true, or maybe given 3WS in 5 years and a conyinuous flow of prospects to the Majors, the Giants are better at evaluatiing prospects and have better propsect than "most" think...I turn around and see former lightly regarded prospects like Crawford, Belt, Panik, and Duffy manning the infield and CHris Heston as one of the, if not the best rookie pitches in the game. But according to most loud mouthed experts and reporters, they would barely make MBL utility level...The Giants have plenty of prospects...they have clones of Panik/craw/Duffy in Tomlinson/Arroyo/Slater/Cole.(not exactly, but you know what I mean---They are ballplayers!!)..They don't have "The" stud as a SP but they have arms galore for bit starters and RP (Strick, Osich, Boradway, Law (in a bit) all ML ready,..Yeah, OF is still an issue (hoepfully Williamson breaks that drought) but perhaps real ML personnel departemnts might have a different view of the system compared to the yammerings of reporters, rotisserie rejects, and self appointed propspect...

Anybody hear of an update on the MARTIN AGOSTA injury..The kid has been dealing big time but seemed to have really injured his leg the other night..
