  1. It was a balmy and somewhat muggy night at Recreation Park last night. As I rode my bicycle to the game I detected a hint of the smell of wood smoke, perhaps a result of the Rim fire near Yosemite. The Little Giants' bats made a statement in the top of the first inning as Big Mac hit a laser shot over the fence in left with Matt Duffy on base and Ricky followed with a more majestic shot to left center that just missed hitting the Red Barn. Mac's shot got out of the park faster than any home run I can remember. In the bottom of the first the Rawhide got one run back. Their hitters consistently put the ball through the hole between Ricky at first and Tevor Brown at second. After that Mejia settled down - he gave up a few hits but no runs until the bottom of the seventh inning. The home run barrage by the Giants continued with a 2-run homerun by Devin Harris that also shot out of the ball park over the left field fence. Ricky almost had another home run, but it hit off the wall in right and he was thrown out at second - the guy is not fast - he sort of lumbers. The second run scored by the Rawhide was the result of an error by second baseman Brown on a slow hopper that he rushed in on, grabbed and had to twist his body for the throw to first, which went very wide of Ricky. The next batter hit the hole between first and second again and the next batter hit a slow squibber down the third base line that was basically a swinging bunt that loaded the bases with no outs. Austin Fleet was brought in and he proceeded to get a double play that allowed a run to score and then he got the third out. Jesus Galindo, who was brought up from Augusta for the playoffs, is as fast as advertised. He beat out a slow chopper in the infield for a single early in the game and later hit a bloop single that drove in the final two runs for the Giants. He was thrown out at second after getting picked off of first, but his speed made it a close play. The Rawhide fans were urging on their team in the bottom of the ninth, but they needed a touchdown just to tie the score. With 2 outs I started a "Let's go Giants" chant that was picked up by the group of San Jose Giant fans along the first base line. There was a good group of Little Giant boosters at the game and we held our own with the chant as the Giants got the 3rd out to close out a very nice win. :) APGiants
