Down on the Farm: 8/31/2013

AAA  Fresno Grizzlies beat the Colorado Springs Skysox 7-1:

Chris Dominguez(3B)- 1 for 4, HR(15).  BA= .295.
Nick Noonan(2B)- 2 for 5.  BA= .252.
Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 2 for 4, 2 3B.  BA= .309.
Guillermo Quiroz(C)- 2 for 2, 2 BB.  BA= .281.
Fabio Castillo(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 6.47.
Dan Runzler(LHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 5.68.
Brett Bochy(RHP)- 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 4.07.

Can we please see some MLB AB's for Chris Dominguez this month?  His dinger here was a grand slam and came against Chris Volstadt.  I know a lot of people are saying Adrianza has never hit before.  That is not true!  He hit very well in San Jose and has had strong K and BB numbers all along.  It seems Castillo runs hot and cold. He has a 5.40 ERA over his last 10 games but allowed 9 of the 10 ER in just 2 of those appearances.  His K/BB over that span is 14/5 over 16.2 IP.  Boch Jr. has 55 K's against just 15 BB's in 55.1 IP.

AA  Harrisburg Senators quashed the Richmond Flying Squirrels 12-3:

Jarrett Parker(RF)- 1 for 3, HR(18), BB.  BA= .247.

Parker has had a very interesting 3 true outcomes season very similar to the previous 2 season in San Jose.  Somehow it looks a whole lot better in Richmond than in SJ.  Those numbers in the majors would make him a very valuable player.

High A  San Jose Giants defeated the Inland Empire 66'ers 5-3:

Myles Schroder(3B)- 2 for 4, 3B(6), HR(6), BB.  BA= .292.
Matt Duffy(SS)- 1 for 3, 2B, Sac.  BA= .294.
Mac Williamson(RF)- 1 for 4, 3 Assists(2B, Home, 1B)!!  BA= .294.
Jose Casilla(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.05.

Can't say I don't feel a bit like a proud papa with Myles Schroder's hot streak here.  The guy just impressed me in a couple of games I saw early in the season.  He'll have to keep proving it, though.  I see him as more of a sleeper and future utility guy than any future starting All-Star.  Gotta love what he is doing right now though.  Mac's driver for .300 is probably stalled out, but OMG!  3 OF assists in one game!  Is there anything this kid can't do?  Oh, and I can't forget.  Matt Duffy!

Low A  Asheville Tourists edged out the Augusta Greenjackets 6-5:

Shawn Payne- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(4), BB.  BA= .259.
Joey Rapp(1B)- 2 for 5.  BA= .268.
Rando Moreno(2B)- 2 for 4, 3B.  BA= .375.
Andrew Cain(RF-CF)- 2 for 3, BB.  BA= .240.
Travious Relaford(SS)- 2 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .213.

Rando Moreno has a combined BA of .349 in the AZL and SAL this summer.

Short Season  Salem-Keizer Volcanoes buried the Eugene Emeralds 7-1:

Randy Ortiz(CF)- 3 for 5, 2 3B, SB(15).  BA= .259.
Ryan Jones(2B)- 1 for 3, 2 BB, SB(9).  BA= .346.
Brian Ragira(RF)- 1 for 5, HR(3).  BA= .263.
Pat Young(RHP)- 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 0.92.

This was Triples Day in the minors for the Giants.  Ortiz has been in and out of the S-K lineup.  He definitely seems to have some speed.  Kind of a mixed bag pro debut for Ragira.  It's good that he moved off 1B, but you'd like to see better numbers from a Stanford guy with a prospect pedigree like his.  Maybe he just needs time to unlearn whatever it is that Stanford teaches their hitters?  I lived in the Philly area for 4 years and came to really like Villanova and their sports teams, so that's an extra reason to root for Pat Young.

Rooke AZL  Giants won their semifinal playoff game against the Padres 5-1:

Cristian Paulino(CF)- 1 for 3, 2 SB.  BA= .333.
Luis Ysla(LHP)- 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 9 K's.
Dusten Knight(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.
Eury Sanchez(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.

Arroyo and Ryder Jones had a hit and run scored apiece.  Nice work by Ysla!  Giants now move on to the AZL Championship game against none other than the Dodgers.  Good to get the kids into that rivalry early!  Go Giants! Beat LA!

DSL season is finished.

  1. Pat Young with a great debut. The Gints have at least 3 SPs from the latest draft, they'll have to figure out how to divide up between SJ and Augusta. You have to figure Richmond bound guys Crick, Blackburn, Mejia and Blach at a minimum. Most likely Escobar but maybe Stratton / Agosta could sneak up. But they will most likely be SJ... With Joan G and Kendry F. There are only so many spots open. Young has been a great surprise. Nice to snag the pen arm back a ways, not pay the premium price... Well they did that too!

Go baby G's! Beat LA! Lets see if its Mella or Badfish DJ Snelten!
