Heliot Ramos and Victor Bericoto led a withering lineup attack against former Giant Kevin Gausman RHP and Landen Roupp pitched 8 innings of 1-run ball in a blowout win. Key Lines:
Heliot Ramos RF- 3 for 5, 3B, 2 HR(8), 3 R, 5 RBI. BA= .274. Ramos led off the game with a booming triple off the wall in Triples Alley. The throw went into the 3B dugout for an automatic advancement and a "little league home run". Later he hit a 3-run HR off the top of the RF arcade and a 2-run long tater half way up the bleachers in L-CF. In 5 games in the month of July, Heliot is batting .364/.391/.1.000, 2B, 2 3B, 3 HR.
Victor Bericoto LF- 2 for 4, SB(1), 2 R, 2 RBI. BA= ..314. Its just two singles in the boxscore but the first one ended with Bericoto scoring on the front end of a double steal with Luis Arraez. The second was a liner into the R-CF gap the RF cut off and held him to a single. That hit came with the bases loaded and 1 out after Bryce Eldridge struck out. I got excited and let out a yell when I saw that ball find grass in the gap. He then scored on Heliot's second HR.
Landen Roupp RHP- 8 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K's, 10/5 GO/AO. ERA= 4.27. Roupp had his pitches working both up and down in the strike zone. The only run he allowed was a solo HR by Kazuma Okamoto 3B, his 20'th on the season, in the 6'th inning.
Spencer Bivens RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00. It was mop up time in a blow out game but Bivens looked sharp. As bad as this bullpen has been, it's hard to believe the Giants are just now bringing him up from AAA and giving him his first MLB appearance of the season.
Trevor McDonald RHP tries to guarantee a series win tonight facing TBD.
The demotion of and inattention to Bivens has been a self-destructive travesty. After his performance in multiple difficult roles the last couple of years, including strongly closing out games at the end of last year, I had thought he would play a major role this year. Best I could figure was ageism. The team’s record would have been better if he had been up all year.
ReplyDelete+ 1 on Jim's take on Bivens, quite puzzling. Bericoto has been a nice bit of fresh air, rooting for him.
