The Blue Jays crushed the Giants in every phase of the game in the series finale. Logan Webb RHP gave up a grand slam in the first inning. Heliot Ramos LF got the Giants only hit of the game leading off the 9'th inning. Rafael Devers 1B allowed 2 unearned runs to score in the 8'th inning when he made an awkward swiping motion at what looked like a perfect relay throw from Luis Arraez 2B and dropped the ball, one of 3 Giants errors in the game. And finally, Ryan Walker RHP gave up back-to-back home runs while allowing 3 runs in the 9'th inning, admittedly long after the game was lost. Webb recovered from his disaster first inning to pitch 6 more scoreless innings, but he can't give up 5 runs in the first inning and expect to win many games.
Willy Adames comitted his 12'th error tying him for third highest among qualified SS's. He continues to carry a negative Fangraphs Def ranking dead last among qualified SS's. Rafael Devers has the highest number of errors of qualified first basemen although he is middle of the pack in Fangraphs Def.
And what's going on with Ryan Walker? His ERA was 6.46 when he was sent down to the minors after giving up 2 runs in 0.2 IP on May 9. He came back on June 12 and pitches to a 2.84 ERA the rest of June. He's been putrid in 4 games in July allowing at least one run in all four with an ERA of 17.36 raising his season ERA to 7.52. What useful role is he playing? He couldn't even get his team off the field in the 9'th inning of a blowout game.
The Rockies come to town for a 4 games series leading up to the All-Star Break. Giants SP is TBD against Ryan Feltner RHP.
Walker needs to be DFA'd at this point, let him go to a franchise that can take on reclamation projects. Bailey couldn't hit the broad side of a barn but, he could at least call a game. I have a lot of questions about Justin Meccage being the right guy at pitching coach going into the break.
ReplyDeleteOne would have thought Ramos hit a walk off with that bat flip rather than being down by 10 in the ninth, on a 3 k day for Ramos, in a no hit game up to that point. Only thing missing was Adames getting him with the gatorade shower. This team is hard to watch and root for.
