I attended this game. Josuar Gonzalez HR was batting RH against rehabbing MLB'er Yusei Kikuchi LHP. It was a rocket that cleared the apex of the Quakes sign above the LF scoreboard. So far, Josuar has been more of a slap and dash hitter but this kid has almost unlimited power potential. Luis Hernandez has struggled at the plate so far in A ball but he played SS in this game and looked like a major leaguer out there. He bobbled one easy roller but ranged about halfway into LF to make an over-the-shoulder catch of a shallow fly ball. He also made a strong throw from the hole and made it look easy. Dario Reynoso is deceptively big with enormous wiry strength in his upper legs. Ricardo Estrada is a smallish soft-tossing lefty who will have to depend on pitchability and keeping the ball on the ground. Max velocity on stadium radar gun was 91 MPH.

DeleteUp until this year, had given no evidence of possessing any power then surprisingly hit 6 homers in 179 ABs at San Jose. He’s hit for average just about everywhere he’s played.
DeleteHard to say what will happen as the last couple days tick down to the trade deadline. I am saddened that there seems no chance of moving Adames, in particular, for some other bad contract. (Seems like a great fit for Boston, actually, and I'd wish him well there.) But I am buoyed at the suggestions on social media that hardly anyone seems interested in Arraez (Rays are the only one about which I've seen rumors), likely for the reason they weren't interested in him before. That leads me to think he may not go at all and maybe even gets signed to a modest extension, the market having spoken. He seems to me a great player much underappreciated.
ReplyDeleteAt this juncture I'll guess that Ramos goes to Seattle for Hancock; that Ray goes to someone for a package of underrated prospects not unlike Doval last year; that Mahle goes to someone for a promising ACL level player. Maybe another reliever or two for less promising ACL prospects. And that Arraez hangs around.
I noticed that Cohen was omitted from the last updated top prospects list you posted maybe 2 weeks ago. It was only top 20 if I recall but still noticed he was left out (zero criticism just observation). He sure looks like a top 10 prospect and with his contact skills I wonder if Posey thinks he might be a replacement for Lee. Posey said he didn’t want to trade Lee but he needs to trade everyone he can and get as many prospects as possible.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn’t have to be a complete rebuild but Posey can’t miss this opportunity to do a hard reset. Even more extreme than what the Yankees did in 2016 when they traded Chapman and Miller. We should not be looking for the best returns on all deals Posey should prioritize getting rid of as much payroll as possible and grabbing more prospects.
Your updates Doc paint a really encouraging picture for this teams future with tempered expectations of course. No self respecting Giants fan would ever truly believe that we could be sitting on the best farm system that we have ever witnessed… at least offensively. Posey needs to build on that while clearing payroll and try to win next year but plan on it in 2028.
