A 2-run rally in the 9'th inning was too little, too late to overcome a 3-run Angels outburst off Carson Whisenhunt in the 4'th inning. Key Lines:
Luis Arraez 2B- 2 for 5, 2B, 2 RBI. BA= .327. Arraez doubled with 2 outs in the 9'th inning to drive in 2 runs but Heliot Ramos LF followed with a K to end the game.
Willy Adames SS- 1 for 4, 2B, 2 R. Adames led off the 5'th with a double and scored on a force out/throwing error. He scored his second run in the 9'th on Arraez' double after reaching base on a fielder's choice.
Drew Cavanaugh C- 2 for 2, 2 BB, R. BA= .262. One of Cavanaugh's walks was in the 9'th inning. He scored on Arraez' double. Cavanaugh seems to have elite plate discipline with an OBP of .392. He batting .400, 4 for 10, over his last 7 games and is batting .281, 9 for 32 over his last 15. So far all of his MLB hits are singles.
Carson Whisenhunt LHP- 5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 4.60. Whisenhunt's day was ruined by a 3-batter sequence in the 4'th inning: HR, Walk, HR. Probably not a coincidence that the HR's were from RH batters Jorge Soler and Jo Adell.
Adrian Houser RHP- 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's, 5/1 GO/AO. ERA= 4.86. Houser's ERA is 2.86 in 22 IP over his last 7 appearances and 3.82 in 61.1 IP over his last 15 appearances. Does he have trade value? Will he move back into the rotation after the trade deadline?
The BrewCrew comes to town starting tomorrow with Tyler Mahle RHP facing Brandon Sproat RHP who comes in with a 5.09 ERA.

Yes, been checking MLBTR constantly throughout the day for the past few weeks, even more often than I’ve been on this site, and that’s already a lot, haha! Also been checking every site possible to follow the Giants draft signings and glad to find out that the Giants have signed their #16 pick Dalton Wentz, who was ranked #168 on the BA list and dropped way down due to being a draft eligible sophomore and the strong likelihood he would go back to school. This could turn out to be a major coup for Buster and Co. and caps off the best Giants draft in years. Now we just gotta hope the player development system produces the best out of all these players.

Delete(I personally feel he could have gotten Devers for less, taking on that contract. But, overpay is understandable considering the Giant's futility in signing FA bats.)

I agree. Last trade deadline was a big improvement on the fecklessness of FZ's deadlines, although he failed to circle back in the offseason and rebuild the bullpen he tore down.

At this point it seems intentional and in Krukows words bullying. Unfortunately umpires at just about every level can be confrontational and petty but the calls that go against the Giants all season and the BS explanations from the umpires while Vitello is questioning them have been unprofessional. Some umpires are amazing at what they do and have incredible patience but what we are seeing is almost a collective effort to shame Tony and punish the Giants for hiring a college coach.
ReplyDeleteWould the Giants be a good team without the umpires bullying them…. Hell no but it hasn’t helped either or has it? If Tony survives this season and comes back next year will he be that much better now that he has gone through the gauntlet of a first year college coach managing in the big leagues? What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger so let’s hope this year is looked at as a necessary building block in Tony’s career that helped chisel him into a great manager for years to come.
