Trevor McDonald allowed just hit and one baserunner over 6 innings of shutout ball while Heliot Ramos and Victor Bericoto supplies the toonder in the lineup and the Giants avoided a series sweep. Key Lines:
Heliot Ramos RF- 2 for 4, 3B, HR(6), 2 R, 2 RBI. BA= .268. Ramos broke up a scoreless game in the 5'th with a mammoth 427 ft HR to CF. He followed that up an inning later with a drive to RF that deflected offf the glove of the RF onto the top of the fence then bounced back onto the field for an RBI triple. He then scored on Jung Hoo Lee's single.
Jung Hoo Lee CF/RF- 2 for 4, SB(6), 2 R, RBI. BA= .319. Tony Vitello went with a bat-first OF lineup with Lee in CF and Bericoto and Ramos on the corners. It paid off.
Victor Bericoto LF- 2 for 4, HR(4) R, 2 RBI. BA= .308. Bericoto backed up Ramos 5'th inning HR with a 422 ft, 2-run blast of his own. I've always believed in Bericoto's bat and it's becoming apparent he has prodigious power potential. Keep running him out there at least until he cools off.
Drew Cavanaugh C- 2 for 4, RBI. BA= .286. Cavanaugh has started 4 of 5 games since his call up.
Trevor McDonald RHP- 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 4.42. Since his poor start in Miami on 6/20, McDonald has allowed 3 R in 11.1 IP over his subsequent 2 starts.
Ryan Walker RHP- 0.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 0 K. ERA= 7.06. There was some poor defense in the 8'th inning but make no mistake, Walker got lit up. 3 of the 4 hits were line drives. Whether it's Tristan Beck, Spencer Bivens or Blade Tidwell, I think it's time to move on from Ryan Walker.
The Giants get a travel day to Colorado for a weekend series against the Rockies. With TBD facing TBD on Friday evening.
Walker needs to purged off the 40-man, I wouldn't mind giving one of Harris or Roxby a look. We need to flush as much of the bullpen outside of Smith, Killian, and Brubaker as we can.
ReplyDeleteI had never seen Bericoto before I watched a clip of his homeriun. For some reason I thought he was built like Panda but he actually looks very athletic. He crushed that home run.

DeleteBericoto has made some very nice plays in the outfield. Has a strong throwing arm. Keep playing him and let's see what he can do.
DeleteI have liked Ramos since before he was drafted. But if they are rebuilding I expect he will be traded in the next Month. He might well become a perennial All-Star in somewhere like Philly or Cincinnati. Bericoto makes that doable in the near term and more help will be on the way.

ReplyDeleteHope that Bericoto will get more regular ABs. Like his power potential. On last night game Trevor McDonald was impressive. He had great stuff, limited.walks, k'd Corbin Carroll twice, I remember only 1 hard hit ball , the one Bericoto made a diving catch on. Miller has great stuff hope he's over his injury.. I bet Giants will get trade inquries on Caleb Killian.

I doubt Buster specifically compared Devers to Bonds. I think Buster thought the Giants biggest need was an elite hitter in the middle of the lineup and stretched his definition of an elite hitter to justify taking on a second tier hitter with an elite contract. Predictably, it hasn't worked out.
