DrB's 2024 Giants Top 50 Prospects: Honorable Mention(Part 3)

 Jairo Pomares OF.  DOB:  8/4/2000.  B-L, T-R.  6'0", 185 lbs.  Rule 5 Eligible

2023(ACL):  .308/.419/.385, 16.1 BB%, 29.0 K%, 31 PA.

Lost most of last season to an apparent injury.  Running out of time so needs to make a big move in 2024.  Defensively limited so the bat has to play.

Carter Howell OF.  DOB:  2/7/1999.  B-R, T-R.  6'0", 200 lbs.

2023(A):  .337/.398/.500, 4 HR, 8 SB, 8.6 BB%, 19.8 K%, 197 PA.
2023(A+):  .270/.353/.408, 6 HR, 6 SB, 10.7 BB%, 19.8 K%, 354 PA
2023(AFL):  .273/.344/.527, 3 HR, 6 BB, 19 K, 55 AB.

Undrafted Free Agent out of Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD.  Has done nothing but hit, college, collegiate wood bat summer leagues, regular minor league seasons and the AFL.   Could the Giants challenge him with a AA assignment to start 2024?

Nomar Medina LHP.  DOB:  11/23/2002.  6'0", 190 lbs.

2023(A):  6-8, 5.19, 95.1 IP, 7.27 K/9, 4.34 BB/9.

I don't have much of a scouting report but his lines look like a soft-tossing lefty who depends on command and secondary stuff.

Tyler Vogel RHP.  DOB:  11/16/2000.  6'0", 175 lbs.

2023(A):  6-7, 4.27, 65.1 IP, 12.26 K/9, 4.68 BB/9, 5 Saves.

Worked exclusively out of the bullpen for S with strong K rates.  Maybe a future bullpen arm?

Luke Shliger C.  DOB:  9/25/2001.  B-L, T-R.  5'9", 180 lbs.

2023(A):  .298/.403/.351, 11.9 BB%, 14.9 K%, 67 PA.

The bat looks good so far.  Might be power challenged.  Can he play catcher or some other position?

  1. Pomares is still 23 and there is time but he needs a full big year in Richmond (as do a few others like Grant MCCray (2 years younger) and Von Brown (too many injuries last year)). Has always had the "can only hit" tag but, really, has only hit around .250-.260 in A+. Not holding my breath on him but hope they are all healthy this year
