DrB's 2024 Giants Top 50 Prospects: #29 Daniel Blair

29.  Daniel Blair RHP.  DOB:  4/8/1999.  6'3", 205 lbs.  Rule Eligible Dec. 2026.

2023(A):  7-1, 2.05, 52.2 IP, 7.69 K/9, 3.08 BB/9, 2 Saves.
2023(A+):  1-3, 5.58, 40.1 IP, 9.37 K/9, 3.57 BB/9.

Daniel Blair is a major sleeper in the Giants system.  Non-drafted Free Agent from the 2022 draft cycle signed out of indy ball for 2023.  Ideal size for a pitcher.  Note that he pitched exclusively in relief for A San Jose but started 7 of 10 games after a promotion to A+.  While his ERA for Eugene looks ugly, also note that his K/9, K/BB and GB% improved significantly and his xFIP was actually lower despite moving into a starting role.  He's a protege of Tread Athletics who helped him rehab from a partial UCL tear and a partial Tommy John surgery(maybe a "brace" procedure?).  His FB velocity boosted from high 80's to 95-97 MPH and reportedly has a terrific sweeper to go with it.  A name I look forward to seeing frequently in Down on the Farm in 2024.

  1. Normally even a casual observer like me at least recognizes all the names in your top 50. Blair gave me a "who's that?" But he looks interesting, so thank you for pointing him out. It'll be interesting to see if he pans out!
