DrB's 2024 Giants Top 50 Prospects: #28 Hayden Wynja

28.  Hayden Wynja LHP.   DOB:  10/14/1998.  6'9", 220 lbs.  Rule 5 eligible Dec. 2025.

2023(A):  4-2, 3.98, 54.1 IP, 11.26 K/9, 2.98 BB/9, 2 Saves.
2023(A+):  3-4, 4.40, 43 IP, 9.84 K/9, 4.19 BB/9.

Another sleeper in the system though maybe not quite as deep as Daniel Blair because he's started showing up on some prospect lists.  Like Blair he was signed as a non-drafted free agent.  I don't have much of a scouting report on him but 6' 9" LHP's don't grow on trees.  Judging from his Fangraphs grades it his FB apparently does not match his height but he has a really good slider.  Pitched an immaculate inning in May for the SJ Giants.  Will watch with interest to see if his stuff plays at higher levels.

  1. Also pitched 5 innings in the AFL where he kinda got lit up but you gotta give tall lefties a chance. Speaking of giving tall pitchers a chance, have you given up the ghost on Sean Hjelle? Didn't see him any where on your lists, not that he belongs there any more. Is he still with the Giants org?

    1. Sean Hjelle is still on the 40-man roster. He would be on the list but has pitched a total of 54 inning in MLB so has officially "graduated". I would love to see him get another shot at either a starting or long relief role with the Giants.

    2. Might not the Giants approach Livermore HS grad Randy Johnson to spend a little time with these guys about how to be successful as a tall lefty?

    3. In the prime of his career, Johnson's fastball was clocked as high as 102 mph – if he can teach that, sign him up!
