DrB's 2024 Giants Top 50 Prospects: Honorable Mention(Part 1)

Alexander Suarez OF.  DOB:  12/20/2001.  B-R, T-R.  6'2", 200 lbs.  Rule 5 Eligible

2023(A):  .245/.310/.353, 5 HR, 22 SB, 5.4 BB%, 27.2 K%, 404 PA.  Probably one of the more tooled up players in the organization but will he ever hit enough?  I believe he is a cousin of Luis Matos.

Estanlin Cassiani OF.  DOB:  12/30/2002.  B-L, T-L.  5'11", 155 lbs.   Rule 5 eligible Dec 2024.

2023(ACL):  .314/.387/.414, 12 2B, HR, 5 SB, 9.9 BB%, 15.2 K%, 191 PA.

Pretty good walk rate despite being a contact hitter with little power.  Should move up to SJ for 2024.

Samuel Reyes OF.  DOB:  1/27/2003.  B-R, T-R.  6'0", 170 lbs.

.378/.478, 432, 15.2 BB%, 13.0 K%, 46 PA.

IDK much about him.  Don't recall ever noticing him before I looked up the current rosters despite 2023 being his third season in the organization.  Hit .305 in his age 18 season in the DSL.  Struggled to a .222 in his first ACL season in 2022.  Improved that a lot last season but in a SSS.  Who is this guy and is he going to move up to SJ in 2024?

Carlos Molina LHP.  DOB:  2/7/2005.  6'0", 190 lbs.

2023(ACL):  4-0, 3.90, 30 IP, 10.5 K/9, 3.3 BB/9.  GB/FB= 1.45.  Most intriguing part of his line is DOB.  Not all that many 18 yo in in ACL. Also a lefty.

Christian Avendano RHP.  DOB:  9/4/2003.  6'0", 168 lbs.

2023(ACL):  0-1, 4.67, 27 IP, 13.33 K/9, 6.67 BB/9.  Was a hitter in the DSL in 2022. Converted to pitching in 2023 and promoted to ACL after 3 IP in the DSL.  Just looking at the line I'm going to guess he throws really hard.

    1. I am not sure why all the reporters are saying the money is a wash:

      Giants Side:
      MH:
2024 $17m (Opt out after this season)
      2025 $15.5m

      AD:
      2024: $12m

      Giants also kicked in 6m

So Giants sent: 38.5m dollars in salary to the Mariners assuming everyone opts in which is likely.
      --------------------------------------------

      Mariners Side:

      Robbie Ray
      2024: 23m (opt out after 2024)
      2025: 25m
      2026: 25m

Mariners send: 73m in salary obligations assuming he opts in. Which is likely.

So the final trade is looking a lot like:
Haniger + Disco for Ray and 34m extra in salary obligations.

After doing the math on the $$$ and knowing how good of a player Ray is. I think I would rather have Haniger and Disco as dead money. Maybe I need more time to chew on it though.

    2. The money is even for 2024 but not in total money. I think Farhan thinks Ray is more likely to bounce back than Haniger/DeSclafani and I think Ray starting 2024 in the 60-day IL gives some CBT relief for this year if the Giants are planning on going up to the limit.

Appears to me combined salary dumps if I am not correct.
I know I cant say the F-Word !!WTF!!!
Come on Farhan get your head out of your A Space.
    For god sakes!!!

    1. It is an odd trade and you have to squint pretty hard to see it helping the Giants much, if at all.

    2. Getting a potential near-ACE for a couple mediocres seems like a good move: the upside is high, the low side is little
