Down on the Farm: 4/8/2013

AAA:  Sacramento River Cats tore up the El Paso Chihuahuas 12-4.

Brett Wisely 2B- 1 for 4, 2B, 2 BB.  BA= .263.
Joey Bart C- 2 for 3, BB, SB(1).  BA= .667.
Gary Sanchez DH- 1 for 4, BB.  BA= .250.
Clint Coulter RF- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .417.
Ryan Walker RHP- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 0.00.
R. J. Dabovich RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 11.57.

Heliot Ramos OF was a late scratch and is reportedly on his way to San Francisco to bolster the righthanded hitting side of the Giants OF....which seems like taking platooning to a whole new level.  Joey Bart begins his rehab assignment and seems perfectly healthy.  Gary Sanchez begins his second spring training after a long layoff.  I am in line with a couple of commenters on MCC who said why not just give Joey Bart 3 months to learn on the job?  Could it really be that much worse than what they have gotten out of the catching position so far? Don't sleep on Ryan Walker who has been lights out in 3 appearances so far and is reportedly hitting 97 MPH on the radar guns.

AA:  Richmond Flying Squirrels topped the Reading Fightin' Phils 4-3(Game 1 of DH, 7 innings).

Ismael Munguia LF- 2 for 3, BB.  BA= .667.
Luis Matos CF- 3 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .750.
Patrick Bailey C- 1 for 3, 2B.  BA= .333.
Carson Seymour RHP- 4 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K.  ERA= 2.25.
Ryan Murphy RHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Blake Rivera RHP- 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, Save(1).  ERA= 0.00.

Great to see Luis Matos get off to a hot start after a strong spring training.

AA:  Richmond Flying Squirrels edged out the Reading Fightin' Phils 3-2(Game 1 of DH, 7 innings).

Nick Zwack LHP- 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Wil Jensen RHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

The Squirrels drew 9 walks to go with 3 hits to get their 3 runs.

A+:  Eugene Emeralds defeated the Everett Aquasox 4-3.

Grant McCray CF- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .500.
Jimmy Glowenke 2B- 3 for 3, HR(1).  BA= 1.000.
Eric Silva RHP- 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K, GO/AO= 8/2.  ERA= 2.25.
Spencer Bivens RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Ty Weber RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(1).  ERA= 0.00.

A:  San Jose Giants beat the Fresno Grizzlies 5-4.

Carter Howell CF- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .214.
Diego Velasquez 2B- 2 for 4, SB(1).  BA= .300.
William Kempner RHP- 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K.  ERA= 0.00.
Dylan Cumming RHP- 4 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, GO/AO= 6/0.  ERA= 0.00.

Howell and Cumming were NDFA after last year's draft.  Velasquez is an IFA bonus baby in his third pro season.  Kempner was the Giants third round pick in the 2022 draft.

  1. I hope Bailey, Matos, McCray, et al all put up great numbers this year so that either they are in SF and contribute or can be packaged to acquire a young star (they said they weren't able to do so last summer).

  2. Along with giving Bart the three months, they should beg Posey to come back as a special coach specifically to work with Bart.
