Down on the Farm: 4/6/2023

 AAA:  Sacramento River Cats mauled the El Paso Chihuahuas 10-5:

Heliot Ramos LF- 1 for 4, SF.  BA= .304.
Brett Wisely SS- 1 for 3, 2B, BB, HBP, SB(2).  BA= .300.
Casey Schmitt 3B- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .308.
Tanner Andrews RHP- 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 8.10.
Jorge Guzman RHP- 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 0.00.
Joe Musgrove RHP(Chihuahuas)- 4.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA- 4.15.

Ford Proctor 2B, Armando Alvarez 1B and Austin Wynns C also hit doubles.  Clint Coulter RF, Michael Gigliotti CF and Wynns were HBP.  Mauricio Llovera RHP pitched a scoreless first inning as Opener.

Full slate of minor league games today.

Addendum:  Turns out there was a A Cal League game yesterday.

A:  Fresno Grizzlies topped the San Jose Giants 5-3(10 innings):

Diego Velasquez 2B- 1 for 4, BB.  BA= .250.
Thomas Gavello 3B- 2 for 4.  BA= .500.
Carson Whisenhunt LHP- 3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 3.00.
Liam Simon RHP- 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

Gavello is listed as a catcher.  12'th round draft pick in 2022.  Simon was a 5'th round pick out of Notre Dame.  Per Roger Munter tweets, he's been hitting 98 MPH this spring.

  2. Is San Jose a low placement for Whisenhunt? He was there briefly last year. Would Eugene have been too aggressive?

    1. The current Giants philosophy is extremely conservative placements whereas the previous regime believe in pushing/challenging prospects. I think either way the talent will show up. There is nothing wrong with Whisenhunt proving out for a couple of months before advancing to A+. He could even sniff AA before the end of the season. The Giants had several prospects move through 3 levels last season.
