  1. Having Blake Rivera doing good and healthy is pretty exciting. Remember, he was a pretty high draft pick in the 4th round who was compared to having the potential of closer Craig Kimbrel because of his wicked curve and the fact that they went to the same school. Blake has a 6’4 frame and can bring the heat. He’s been plagued by walks and he’s been injured like his whole Giants career, and I’m hoping he continues to be healthy and excel in the closer slot so he can get a future potential giants call up

    1. Zero walks in 7 innings so far.

    2. Hopefully, Rivera will continue to progress and remain healthy. I've never forgotten the very injury prone Ray Black and his 100+MPH fastball. And terrible control that negated that fastball. But, just for the record, Rivera has pretty much abandoned his curve for a high-90s fastball and an improving slider. At this point he's looking more like a late-innings (7th/8th) reliever but not a closer.

  2. It's nice to see Ramos hitting well in AAA. Something he hasn't done, at any level, since 2019. I just hope it's real and whatever problems he was having with approach or pitch recognition or whatever are getting ironed out.

But his failure to advance gets me to woolgathering. When I was kid, and a teenager, the Giants were an OF factory. Ken Henderson, Jack Clark, Bobby Bonds (one of my all-time favorites with his Olympic-class speed), Dave Kingman, Garry Mathews and people I'm sure I'm forgetting until the string ended with 2x All-Star Chili Davis leaving the Giants in 1987.

Since then, the closest thing we've had to success since then has probably been Nate Schierholtz who was, in Bochy's words, 'not an everyday player.' Well, there was Bryan Reynolds. The All-Star who would have broken the streak but for being traded away for an incompetent fielding, offensively declining McCutcheon. But we traded him when he was still in the minors, so no credit.

So I'm pulling hard for him. I really want this nearly 40 years of drought to go away. And go away with a vengence.

    1. Sigh. I guess I have been waiting for the next Willie Mays every since.....well, ever since Willie Mays was traded to the Mets in 1972. Unrealistic, I know but that's my wish.

    2. Just like I waited so long for the next Juan Marichal. I finally accepted that would never happen because pitching is so much different now. We'll never see 30 Complete Games in a season from a starting pitcher again. At least we had some reasonable facsimiles like Timmy and MadBum who did something the 60's Giants never did, win a World Series. Make that three World Series!

    3. This year, at 23½, Heliot Ramos was the youngest Giant and is the youngest River Cat non-pitcher. Only Kyle Harrison is younger (leaving out Dilan Rosario who had 3 PAs before going back to San Jose).
In the entire PCL, there are a few non-pitchers under 23-yo and 2 other 23-yo position players. Ramos is holding his own against them, and doesn't look bad against the 24-yo's either.
We are too familiar with Ramos because he's been with us since he was just 17 and so highly regarded – could anyone lived up to that not named Fernando Tatis, Jr? At 18 in A ball (Augusta) and 19 in A+ (San Jose then), he was pretty good, at -3½ years!
Sitting out 2020 hurt him a lot, like it did many – now he's fighting back, still at -3½ years!

    4. I'm not even waiting for Willie Mays. I'd just like a Chili Davis or Jack Clark. Good guys who were difference makers, made a few All-Star teams, but weren't HOFers.
