Pablo Sandoval provided all the offense Ryan Vogelsong and the bullpen needed with a solo HR and SF as the Giants came out on the best end of a pitching duel with the Twins. Key Lines:
Pablo Sandoval- 1 for 3, SF. BA= .227. Pablo hit his 4'th HR in 6 games and his second first-inning HR in as many games to give Ryan Vogelsong a 1-0 lead he never relinquished. Sandoval is carrying the team offensively right now.
Ryan Vogelsong- 6.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 3.20. As you might guess from the K and BB numbers, Vogey had pinpoint control of good stuff all night commanding 4 pitches, really 5 if you count a 4 seam and 2 seam FB as 2 different pitches. His composite line for his last 6 starts: 3-1, 1.35, 40 IP, 11 BB, 35 K.
Sergio Romo- 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(16). ERA= 3.27. Romo gave up a leadoff HR to Josmil Pinto on an inside FB after shaking off Buster Posey who wanted a slider. Romo's previous slider had backed up on him, fortunately out of the strike zone. Buster apparently felt that Romo had lost faith in his slider and came out for a heart-to-heart. Back behind the plate, Buster called for another slider and Romo again shook him off. Buster called for the slider again, insisting that he throw it. This one bit and from then on Romo seemed to have his mojo back retiring then next 3 batters easily. At least that is the narrative Kruk gave on TV as the 9'th unfolded.
The Win maintained the Giants lead over the Rockies in the NL West at 4 games as the Rocks defeated ATL 3-1. The 3'rd place Dodgers slipped to 5.5 games behind with a 5-3 loss to the Phillies. The 4'th place Padres fell 9.5 games off the pace with a 3-2 loss to the Cubs. The last place D'Backs stayed at 12.5 games back with a 3-2 win over the Mets.
Madison Bumgarner goes for the series sweep today facing long time Giants nemesis Ricky Nolasco from his Marlins days.

The Twins look shocked. They're playing good ball and they got nothing to show for it. The Giants Way!
ReplyDeleteI am I worried about Romo, no way.
Voggie with control and stuff is a clinic of how to pitch-n-pound the zone.
Pablo is letting his inner Panda out. Nice to see him bringing home the bamboo.
