Matt Duffy!

High A  San Jose Giants pounded the Visalia Rawhide 12-8:

Jesus Galindo(CF)- 3 for 5, 3B.  BA= .317.
Shawn Payne(DH)- 3 for 5, 2 2B, 3B.  BA= .313.

Martin Agosta(RHP)- 1.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 10.55.

This is an aggressive assignment for Blake Miller, a guy drafted out of a small college program just last summer.  He continues to rake at the plate while holding down a SS position  after it looked like he would be moved to a corner IF position in the spring.   Second disastrous start for Agosta in a row.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets edged the Greensboro Grasshoppers 3-2:

Ryder Jones(3B)- 2 for 4, 2 2B.  BA= .271.
John Polonius(2B)- 2 for 3.  BA= .192.
Luis Ysla(LHP)- 7 IP,  5 H, l R, 2 BB, 4 K, GO/AO= 7/2.  ERA= 2.50.

Rando Moreno played SS while Jones moved back to 3B.  Ysla continues to impress.

  1. Hello everybody. Sorry for the hiatus. Doc, Blake Miller is one of the hottest hitters in the Cal League right now. D2 baseball represent! Speaking of hot, what about Mario Lisson? Hitting .393 over his last 10, we're starting to see that power show off in the EL now. There might not be any room at the moment, but I'd like to see his bat in Fresno at some point this season.

Luis Ysla keeps pitching like this, maybe he gets a bump to help the San Jose staff. That group sure has let me down so far. What the heck is going on with Stratton and Agosta?!

    1. I think Agosta has to be hurt. His velocity is down, he's getting clocked.

Stratton continues to be meh, but he was perfect through 4 1/3 the other day with 5 Ks.

Luis Ysla is a big bright spot in the system. Along with the scrappy SS's Duffy and Miller. Who says you have to spend big in the draft?

Hunch on Christian Arroyo is the injury is window dressing to give him a break because he's pressing. Ryder Jones is doing quite well for a yoot in full season ball.

Every year there always surprises, and a lot of fall on your face moments. I'd also call Christian Jones a very nice surprise. I could see him moving before Mella or Ysla actually.

    2. The Agosta and Arroyo hunches make a ton of sense. Why else would Agosta be getting shelled like this? Very concerning. Christian Jones, looking very good! Some nice lefties down there in Augusta.

Almost draft time Shank... I said I wasn't budging on a pitching pick. Well, I might have budged. Give me Mr. Pentecost at 14, and I would honestly be a happy camper. I do like Freeland, and would have been pretty dang excited about Finnegan as well had he not gotten the injury bug. If Turner is there, they might have to think pretty hard about it. I don't think your guy Grant Holmes will hang around that long, but if he does... Think a few teams are scared of Touki? Why else would he be getting mocked late 1st round?? The Giants aren't scared of anything, dang it...

    3. I'm at Touki/Holmes or Chavis/Pentecost with that pesky athlete Monte Harrison sitting out there, judging...The college lefties would be OK, I'm just not sold they have something special the way Touki/Holmes have a heater/curve combo or Chavis/Pentecost look like good bets to be able to hit in the pros.

  2. Why is Minicozzi at San Jose?
